The latest file for SFB, Module C6 has just hit the presses. It should be shipping to distributors tomorrow, and go out for mail orders next week. (The cover art looks like this.) C6 looks at a series of "what-if" timelines, in which the Paravians and Carnivons (a pair of species introduced to the Early Years in Module Y1) managed to survive into the "modern" era in the Alpha Octant. Historically, both species became extinct in "our" corner of the galaxy; but a group of Paravians would later become a power in the Omega Octant, while rumours abound of a "last command" of Carnivon exiles who may, perhaps, have made it as far as the distant Sargasso Storm region. But in C6, a series of "pre-war" and "wartime" hulls is being presented for both empires, intended for use in alternate timelines (or simulator exercises) in which one or both empires managed to stake a claim in the Alpha Octant for the long haul. In addition to the Paravian map preview shown last year, a new file shows what the two alternate histories done up for the Carnivons turn out like. (The top map shows a Carnivon realm which had managed to unite and survive long enough to last into the modern era, and includes planets which were depopulated by the Lyrans and Kzintis in the "standard" timeline. The bottom map shows a quantum reality in which two Carnivon Hordes fled into the WYN Cluster, and went on to use it as a launchpad for a fresh round of conquest in Y178, taking advantage of their neighbours' mutual exhaustion in the General War.) Also, there are sketches done by Adam Turner (the front cover artist for quite a few SFU game modules, including the one for C6 itself) which show his visions of what a Carnivon and a Paravian would look like. (Adam also sketched his take on a Gorn, and made a welcome point to include traces of the genetic link between that species and their Paravian cousins/nemeses.) |

C6 just went live on the ADB online store. Pre-orders will start shipping from the 30th onwards. Historically, the Carnivons were destroyed by the Kzintis and Lyrans, while the Paravians were accidentally made extinct by the Gorns. What if they had survived to the General War?This module includes 120 SSDs defining the ships they would have built, plus the rules for their advanced weapons and the battles they would have fought. For the Carnivons, we provide two alternate histories based on actual events. The Carnivons almost united until the leader was assassinated. Two of their hordes were destroyed on the edge of the WYN cluster after considering a suicide dive into its radioactive walls. Either would have resulted in a real and very powerful Carnivon Empire that would have been unwilling to ally with either feline empire. Paravian history also depends on a single leader, Marengo Firecloud Wildfeather, who (historically) tried to convince the other wing lords to stop raiding and start building colonies. Had he succeeded, the Paravians would have built an empire at the expense of the Gorns and ISC, and the ISC would never have become the peacemakers they historically were. While Marengo's campaign failed, he did build the remote colony of Wingatha, where those Paravians who survived the Gorn campaign gathered to decide their future. They could have built a world there and returned to raiding, but instead they headed for the Omega Sector. Includes 122-page rulebook, 138-page SSD book, 280 die-cut counters. A preview file for SFB Module C6 has gone up on DriveThruRPG, including sample SSDs (a war cruiser apiece) for both the Paravians and Carnivons. For those who may have seen the earlier "raiding" Paravians done for Captain's Log #28, these Paravians have been altered significantly, as these ships are intended for line combat rather than work as raiding ships. |

A new set of arrivals showed up yesterday:
Aside from the Star Fleet Battles data in C6 proper, a preview of both "lost empires" for Federation Commander is in CL48, as is a look at the Paravians for Federation and Empire (based on the alternate Mapsheet P setup.) |
