Back in August, our club was invited to participate in the 250th Anniversary event at Bushy Run Battlefield.

Myself (Nate Gerstner), Kaleb Dissinger, and Chris Rothermel made the trek from Harrisburg out to Pittsburg and put on a display game of the battle. We had a lot of fun showing the visitors what exactly the hobby of wargaming is all about. It was very interesting to see people's expressions, when they thought they were just looking at a diorama, and then found out it was actually a game. We also had several children play, much to their parents chagrin as they were unable to pull their kids away from the game. One boy gamed with us on Saturday, and came back bright and early Sunday morning to resume the action. His parents said he wouldn't stop talking about the game and that he even bought some miniature soldiers in the museum's gift shop.

Here is the link to our photos, which include pics of the game, the reenactment, and some of our 'night life' for the weekend:

We will also be running this game at Fall-In in November. We are setting it up as two games for each of the two days of the battle. And it will be on a larger table to include the initial ambush of the first day's action.

Most of the miniatures are Old Glory 25mm, including a mix of Conquest Miniatures and Dixon. Miniatures were painted by myself and Kaleb (PaintMySoldiers@yahoo.com).

In the Spring of 1763, the Appalachian frontier was in flames after a series of coordinated Indian attacks. Fort Pitt and Fort Ligonier in western Pennsylvania held out,but supplies were running low. Under Col. Henry Bouqet, a mixed force of Highlanders, Royal Americans, and riflemen marched to relieve the two forts. Near Bushy Run Station, they were ambushed by a large force of Indians.

On August 5th 1763, a large force of Indian warriors ambushed
Col. Henry Bouqet's column of British soldiers as they marched
through the Pennsylvania wilderness to relieve Fort Pitt. As
casualties mounted, Bouqet pulled back his men and set up a
defensive perimeter on Edge Hill. Night brought a temporary
cessation to the fighting, but at dawn the Indians renewed their
attack.

Great looking game! Plus a wonderful venue to run it in. You also seem to possibly have recruited a new gamer or two along the way!

thumbs up

Thanks,

John

That's an amazing battlefield monument, on page three or so.
