Well, at least for me.

I see some of you can access and use them just fine.

My older PC on the other hand just can't handle the new format, and I can only see/access the first seven groups of many I'm a member of. I don't see any way to access, or view the others, other than to do a search by name for them in Yahoo, or Google, but outside of the Groups home page, in order to find them. Yahoo Groups doesn't permit access to them.

A real shame, since there is so much useful info out there on them.

The new tutorial overview just hangs on the first page for me.

When I try to post a message, I can add a title, but the very small, narrow text box won't open, or permit me to type anything in it.

I'm an owner of a couple groups, and an admin for a couple more.

I imagine others will eventually figure out why they've been abandoned, given all of the negative feedback from users on the "new, improved, Groups service".

I tried to get a response, but just got this instead, which essentially says, there's no going back, or opting out of the new format:

I assume this is their nice way of kicking people off of Groups, or getting them to abandon them.

A real shame.

I've not enjoyed the new Yahoo Groups format, but am not experiencing the same issues as you. I expect I'll get use to it, but much preferred the older (easier) format.

Have you updated the the latest version of whatever browser you use? The problems will have absolutely nothing to do with the age of your PC, unless it's a decade old.

skippy000123 Sep 2013 2:52 a.m. PST

Just went there, had to re-affirm my password and no problem-I use mozilla firefox with a old pc.

Chef Lackey Rich Fezian23 Sep 2013 3:23 a.m. PST

It's neither the age of the computer nor your browser, they've just got a ton of bugs in the code. I've been going back and forth with their customer service guys for weeks now and they can't fully explain or fix the problems for me – one guy finally admitted it was bound to be something (probably many somethings) on their end and the whole launch had been a debacle.

If you've still got full functionality, be thankful. It may not last – they're still doing work behind the scenes, and an account that works fine on one group one day may be dead the next.

Dynaman878923 Sep 2013 3:27 a.m. PST

Just to ditto the others, the roll out for their new format has been a disaster. Although it is currently a pain they will most likely get the bugs worked out.

Yesterday morning my wife could not get to anything, by the afternoon it was working fine. Others have mentioned functionality coming and going for the past few weeks.

Ditto to most of the above. The new format has a plus
or two, but a LOT of minuses !

Agreed!

Cosmic Reset23 Sep 2013 4:40 a.m. PST

I can use Yahoo groups without any problem, and haven't had to do anything with passwords or whatever to do so. But in the last couple of weeks, every other part of Yahoo is screwed up for me. Sports, weather, whatever, the pages won't display properly, buttons don't work, things hang up, I can't use the back button in my browser, etc.

I get messages telling me to update my browser every now and then, but I have the newest version with the most current update. Same problems on my home computers and at work. Bye, bye Yahoo.

Allen5723 Sep 2013 5:36 a.m. PST

I have so many problems with the Y! groups I cant even list them all. The most frustrating is an inability to post messages. I was wondering if setting up a new account in Yahoo might fix this. If Yahoo wanted to dump the groups why don't they just do it? I think this whole thing is a software problem on their end which they can't seem to resolve quickly.

Caesar23 Sep 2013 6:21 a.m. PST

I know they want to update their look, but they forgot to make it user friendly.
I'm seriously considering abandoning it.

AndrewGPaul23 Sep 2013 6:37 a.m. PST

I suppose one workaround would be to bookmark the "intro" page of each group, and navigate to them that way.

SBminisguy23 Sep 2013 6:43 a.m. PST

This brilliant new change didn't actually change anything as far as I can tell -- just shuffled things about and renamed stuff, like "Messages" became "Conversations." Why did they bother with this counterproductive waste of everyone's time unless they went full on Facebook in style??

Tarleton23 Sep 2013 6:57 a.m. PST

A real slef shot in the foot all the messing yahoo is doing with its sites.

A definite thumbs down from me!

Apart from layout changes and having to access a few items from DD menus I can't see much change at all in functionality. What browsers are you all using ? I'm on IE and haven't had problems.

Belong to a 100 plus groups and moderate 6 more. No problems with any of them. Using Foxfire browser and running on 8 year old PC.

I use Windows 7 with Firefox. I have avoided MS Explorer for years. There are times when MS Explorer can handle things better though. You could also download Apple's Safari and give it a whirl….

Yahoo! has been having lots of problems over the last few years. I love the one where they forwarded my email to a defunct email address. The kicker is since the took away free mail forwarding, I had to buy the upgrade for $19.95 USD for a year to remove the mail forwarding (didn't want to wait days for Yahoo to fix this and read the help forums to discover this was the best route). I now have the email forwarding address embedded to my Gmail but just now turned mail forwarding off. If the error happens again, I am covered. I do a lot of job applications and can't change my email address without it causing loads of trouble. I will eventually bite the bullet and jump to Gmail fully though.

clifblkskull23 Sep 2013 8:18 a.m. PST

I am not crazy about the new format BUT it does have some good things and I do not have the problems mentioned.
I enjoy the Groups and much prefer them to Facebook etc.
Good Luck.

I'm on 180+ groups and mod about 15+. I have had absolutely no issues and nothing has changed. Windows 7 with newest version of Firefox.

War Panda23 Sep 2013 8:33 a.m. PST

Mako I thought it was just me…I've been giving out loads to my wife about the change…don't like the new format at all…but apart from that if I'm using my MAC I can't open a message without it freezing…don't have a problem with my PC but I still don't like what they've done

Mako1123 Sep 2013 9:42 a.m. PST

I have IE8.

As mentioned, can't see or access most of my groups, post anything other than the title of a new message, etc.

Most of the links/buttons don't work for me, and their tutorial of the new changes freezes on page one. No way to select, tab, or view the other pages.

Customer service is a joke.

The only response was the above message, saying we aren't going back and you can't opt out of the upgrade, and implying I'm a luddite.

Personal logo miniMo Supporting Member of TMP23 Sep 2013 9:55 a.m. PST

Mac with Safari, on some groups I can't open up any conversations at any time, other groups I can.

GildasFacit Sponsoring Member of TMP23 Sep 2013 10:40 a.m. PST

From the responses above it is clear that not all of the issues are with Yahoo, some must be related to the conditions on the users' system.

You may feel that Yahoo should make sure such problems don't arise (and I realise that there ARE ways of minimising such problems) but 'Customer Service' is hardly appropriate as the system is effectively free.

As the saying goes – if its free then you get what you pay for.

Dan 05523 Sep 2013 11:12 a.m. PST

I'm also on IE8 and have the same problems. I can't update any further without updating to a newer OS which I'm not about to do.

I've already desubscribed from all yahoo groups except for the tiny number I had to keep.

Bunkermeister Supporting Member of TMP23 Sep 2013 11:18 a.m. PST

I am on 91 groups, own several and moderate several more. There are a few good things about the new system, but not many. I liked the old one better. The new one logs me out all the time and I have to keep changing my password because it often does not remember the old one. Messages are sent and don't appear for days for me, but others see and reply to them before I see them. It's a mess.

the new format blows chunks, its about as flexible and user friendly as the "swamp angel" from 1864

John Leahy Sponsoring Member of TMP23 Sep 2013 1:52 p.m. PST

Well, the change finally hit me. I would like an option to alphabetize my groups. 187 is simply way too many to do individually. Anyway, to solve it I found the Firefox add on that reverted my groups back to the way they were (at least for now). Works fine, so far.

Thanks,

John

Here's the link to the FF add on that reverts yahoo Groups back to the previous version.

Most of the goups I belong to are not in my list, at least not via Ipad.
Idiots.

Mako1123 Sep 2013 10:19 p.m. PST

Hmmm, tried accessing Yahoo, through Google, and that worked.

Usually, going in through Yahoo, I wasn't getting the second scrollbar on the right hand side of the page, so could only see the first seven of my groups.

By going in through Google to Yahoo, and then Groups, I got the second scrollbar on the right side of the page.

Interestingly, the group orders are a bit different. They seem to start out numerically, and then alphabetically, but for some reason, a lot of the alphabetical listings aren't.

Didn't look at the numerical ones too closely to see if the same applies to them.

So, I guess that is a horrible, convoluted workaround, in the interim, but I still don't like the change, and don't understand why IE8 doesn't work.

I imagine both Google and Yahoo would hate the method to my madness.

The new format still sucks. I like the older, more condensed version far better.

Beats having to convert to Firefox, since I've heard that has its own set of issues too.

Mr Elmo24 Sep 2013 4:14 a.m. PST

Can't you just set up a Facebook group?

Yahoo groups are so last century. I've forgotten about them long ago.

Cincinnatus24 Sep 2013 7:35 p.m. PST

Says the guy mentioning something related to Facebook…

Houdini02 Oct 2013 5:41 p.m. PST

Yahoo groups are a mess for me. Layouts, non responsive buttons, bugs everywhere. I have given up and deleted my account with them. So frustrated and disappointed. Needed access to keep Carnage and Glory software up to date.

Bob in Edmonton07 Oct 2013 7:39 p.m. PST

Similar problems on our club group. I can't even reply to posts using the web interface (only by email) and none of the moderator functions work (have lost functionality in the last two weeks!) so we're on the look out for an alternative (FB was vetoed--fair enough). Anyone with suggestions about alternative mailing-list style groups?

Blake Walker07 Oct 2013 10:39 p.m. PST

I can't post any new topics or messages for the yahoo user groups I belong to. Their new format is awful. Guess I'll have to give up on them.
