I need advise from people who play heroclix. I need to make up some Gorn for a friends Star Trek game, but I need to keep it cheap.

First the plan. Buy a few low end value heroclix and use the INL games technique of recapitation to make em Gorn. Paint green.

the problem, I don't know heroclix or the superhero universe. What I need is guys with Good Physiques, at slightly larger than standard sizes. I am thinking the Hercules figure might work, as an example. Troll and toad has them for fairly cheap..

Not sure if the model will be bigger than the average human.. And I have no ideas who else might work. Figure about 10 figs in different poses, would be nice..

Any suggestions?

Another good large human Heroclix model is Non, who already has a hand positioned to add a blade or gun.
You can also look at some Killer Croc models for a body that is already reptilian.

What is "the INL games technique of recapitation" and how will that make them Gorn?

as an example.

I am a big fan of his particular brand of mod insanity.. I have a hard time bringing myself to do the same, mind you.. so this will be overcoming my reluctance to chop off heads..

I rather like these alien lizards.

Those new Lancer minis certainly look interesting.

Anyone have a pic of their backs?

I like the Space Vixens line a bit too, but the overly large eyebrow ridges make them look a little odd. Perhaps it is just the angle the photo is taken from.

I wish they had more poses of the Space Vixen Rim Aliens lines, especially the Pointy Eared ones, but also the guys and gals in gray battle armor.

Kokigami, I have the full set of Raizze lizardmen newly released by Lancer minis and can assure you they're nice minis, with the right kind of minimal costumes for gorn. I like 'em and th eprice is good too.
They're pretty much standard human 28mm size, so if you want your gorn tall, maybe go for the spacevixens figures, since they are actual 'not-gorns', after all.
But if you want some diversity in your troops, then I'd go for Lancer's lizardmen.

Khurasan Jon, your Garn are superb – but can I ask an off-thread question? Will you be releasing any 28mm Felids? Or any more of your excellent 15mm aliens in 28mm?
There's a lot of us just waiting for that to happen!

I've had "Gorn" on my long term to do list for a long time. I've been planning on using the Kurasan Miniatures, but possibly adding to them with the Space Vixens line. Does anyone know how these two lines look side by side?

I was posting this reply last night, but the members services shut down. A big critera here is cheap. Like less than a buck a figure cheap. This is probably a one off for the gorn.. we have never done man to man Trek before, generally doing ship to ship. I think this is just a twist the host is tossing in.

There is also a therapy aspect. While I really admire the stuff INL games does with figure hacking, I have an intense aversion to chopping up a figure. Goes back to my youth when I could't afford em, I guess. and somebody spend a lot of time sculpting em. it feels disrespectful. I am trying to get past that..

The non looks promising, and I found a couple others that might serve. At 49 cents a piece, I won't feel bad bout whacking plastic, I think. The abomination has potential as well..

But I may talk to the host and see if he has long term plans for man to man skirmish. If so, maybe I will take up the Gorn empire and spend a bit more on the better models..

Killer Croc is a good one. Also the various Abominations, which you can pretty easily get for $.50 USD each. And Ch'od. These will give you a good number of different poses and near nekkid reptilian bodies. The Gorn need a primitive Tarzan wrap, if I recall.

What are you going to use for heads? Dollar store dinosaurs or crocodiles? Snakes, maybe?

Also … giraffe men … I miss them …

couple of good hercules minis, all usually sell for under a buck, usually, and since they are the same character design you could use them as different individuals with the same uniform, maybe color coded for rank.

Hercules #016 Marvel HeroClix Secret Invasion
Hercules #120 Veteran Marvel Heroclix Infinity
Hercules #026 Incredible Hulk Marvel Heroclix

A good techno lizard man though it has a tail
Gordanian #005a Teen Titans DC Heroclix

I know you don't like chopping them up but for a good reptilian head
Lizard #013 Rookie Marvel Heroclix Ultimates
Lizard #030 Amazing Spider-Man Marvel Heroclix

These aren't heroclix but might do the job for the right price and don't require cutting. From the WOTC Star Wars plastics
Trandoshan Mercenary #52 Legacy of the Force
Trandoshan Mercenary #55 Alliance and Empire
Bossk, Trandoshan Hunter #24 Dark Times Star Wars Miniatures
Trandoshan Scavenger #39 The Clone Wars Star Wars Miniatures
Trandoshan Elite Mercenary #36 Dark Times Star Wars Miniatures
Bossk #56 Rebel Storm Star Wars Miniatures
Bossk, Bounty Hunter #21 Bounty Hunters

thanks will be looking closely at these. Hi E. Have been researching heads. found a dozen 1 inch t rex for 8 bucks, but.. researching the gorn more closely, they actually dont' look much like T rex. Actually, that Gordian is a pretty righteous face. Thinking 4 of these for heavy troops.. ( I have learned the setting will be a desert oasis, breeding pool. He doesn't want to tell me much. snakes might be a good choice. Gotta hit the dollar stores.

The SW Trandoshian has a good Gorn-like head. I found them for under a buck at strikezoneonline. You would want different bodies though – the SW ones come in jumpsuits.

Mako1123 Sep 2013 9:54 a.m. PST

Yea, for cheap figs, the Trandoshians are a good option.

I was thinking the Lancer minis, with some bulging eyes added, might be serviceable too, though they really aren't bulky enough. Their heads look a bit more horse-like to me, than lizard-like (especially their noses).

Perhaps the Gorn leader was overfed, due to his status, and the run of the mill ones are thinner.

I'd love to see some better, Gorn proxies produced, in a variety of poses.
