I'd be most interested to learn about all sorts of scenario based games (usually by this I mean fixed set up, and not army lists, but the general intent of scenario play vs competitive list building is key) I might be unaware of across different genres. There's a wealth of scenarios of historical conflicts from WW2 and before, so here I'll list "genre games" for now – but feel free to suggest any source of cool scenario gaming! Here's a list off the top of my head of the ones I know: Battletech (Alpha Strike!) – a vast array of scenarios and campaigns. Playable with the new, fast, Alpha Strike Rules. Force on Force and Tomorrow's War – modern or sci-fi warfare, scenario based. All Things Zombie & Mass Hysteria! Lord of the Rings SBG – at its core as a scenario and campaign game. Space Hulk – of course! Starship Troopers – a lot of scenarios available if you dig for 'em. Some work with lists though. Judge Dredd TMG – there's scenarios in old Signs & Portents at least. Necromunda & Mordheim – though list based, they are campaign games with a focus on cool scenarios Inquisitor – another GW scenario game. Warhammer 40k – surprisingly, you might consider old battle reports scenarios, and there's scenarios in older White Dwarfs, thoughmost of the ones with set forces are from Imperial Armour books and such. Warhammer FB – the above applies to a lesser extent (no Imperial Armour) |

DARK AND BLOODY GROUND is the first (hopefully of many) campaign settings for my fantasy world The Splintered Lands. (David McBride and I are Splintered Light Miniatures, and the campaign assumes the use of my PRIDE OF LIONS rules and our miniatures -- though neither is required.) The archdruid of Wyldewood, to reduce pressure from too-rapid growth of his faun and halfling populations, has planted strategic settlements in territory disputed by the goblins of Moonglade. These are Daniel-Boone-in-Kentucky style stockades protecting families determined to conquer the wilderness and make a home. Moonglade responds with a massive invasion, and the elves of Wyldewood send help for their colonies. The campaign details or outlines several scenarios -- assault on a stockaded village, a forest ambush, a fight along the causeways in the Gobbling Swamp. There are guidelines for constructing Orders of battle for both sides, but based on what miniatures are available in players' collections. So yes, the general intent is scenario play vs competitive list building. But LINKED scenarios. |

The first W40k rogue trader book has a great scenario generator section .We still use it for skirmish games now ,with a little change they can be adapted to most other games and genres. |

Good call on Rogue Trader, interesting about Dark and Bloody Ground. I just found out that the game I passed for some reason, The Great Rail Wars, seems to be absolutely perfect – it's got at least two dedicated campaign books and when they mean campaign they're serious! I also pondered a bit on scenario creation for games in general and decided that the best way to play points based games would be to have one player or an umpire do the forces and scenario, then just let the other guy pick sides – and have at it! |

GRW (you are referring to the Deadlands minis game, the ACW goes zombie?) is great fun; I highly recommend it. |

My SF game Swatters has a point system but is really scenario-based and the point system used only as a reference tool. |

Our Flashing Steel game has a scenario generator that creates a mini-campaign of three games. Also, the kung Fu game I wrote for Osprey "A Fistful of Kung Fu" which is coming out next year, has a detailed semi-random scenario creation section with many variables. |
