Today we played three games of MA. First was my skeleton army versus my buddy Greg's Orcs. I rolled primarily ones and twos for MPs as it seemed my necromancer-general hadn't had his caffeine fix. Greg's Orcs were a well-disciplined mob that seemed to understand how to counter a refused flank. My skellie catapult did manage to destroy two units of orc cavalry that were attempting a flank move, so it wasn't a walk in the park. In the second game it was Greg's Orcs battling friend Thomas' army of monsters. Thomas fielded a hard-hitting menagerie of monsters made up of a variety of D&D pre-painted miniatures. Sadly it was Thomas' turn to fudge almost every MP roll as the monsters' evil commanders couldn't get his pets to act as a cohesive whole. For game three it was my skeletons facing Thomas' monsters; and what a fiasco it proved as neither general was up to the task of commanding an army. This game was filled with a lot of confused minions moving forward and fighting piecemeal across the table-top. The high, or rather low moment was when my sorcerer attempted to cast lightning bolts at three different targets two turns in a row and failed each time! Eventually, Thom had a sudden turn of fortune and was able to sweep into my undead and grind them back into the dirt. Mighty Armies once again proved to be a fast, furious and unpredictable game and we loved every minute of it. -Edgar |
