New on my blog, an article on how to speed up your Full Thrust thresh checks, also handy for players of Star Fleet Battles, Classic Battletech, and old-school Starfire:

Man is a tool-using animal, best to take advantage of that. :)

I have to say that's a very neat idea! Thank you!

This is a great way to speed play. I assembled one of these devices for games of Starfleet Wars. I call mine the Box O' Death™

I think the first time I ever saw the basic idea was in an SFB group way back in the mid-80s myself. Surprising how few people go to the (minor) effort of putting one together, though.

Mine is more accurately named the Box o' Broken Fire Controls than anything else. :)

I love the "not-a-uniform" look of using the same set of colors for every model, in different ways.

In all my years I've never seen this gadget. As brilliant as it is elegant in it's simplicity, Rich! Mind If I steal this? I promise to blame you for the idea, of course….

Wasn't mine originally, BWP. Just passing a good idea along.

I saw this on Facebook last night. The only problem that was mentioned was the noise that the dice make. I plan on trying this with with a softer plastic box.

Beats my idea; I was going to use dice color-coded to SSDs. Really only good for smaller ships, though.

Doug

Edit: I guess this from the replies-to-blog is about equivalent: I did something similar -- I took ten dice and marked the one-pip sides 1 – 10, and numbered the systems on my ship displays

Yep, that technique could work too. Plenty of approaches to it, I just like the numbered-pocket one myself – partly because it's versatile and can be adapted to 2d6, d10, or 2d10 systems just by swapping around what dice you've got in the pocket.

Nice. This would also be a great solution for shooting with infantry teams in Gruntz.

Hadn't thought of that, but yeah, I'd think it work pretty well there too.
