I've got a 15mm Ancient British army – all Corvus Belli figures – based for FOG I would like to do Caesar's Invasions of Briton but I'm not really sure what figures to use mainly because of the transition in kit Corvus Belli also do a small range of Marian Romans as well as EIR Would it be OK to use a mix of Marian Roman & any EIR not wearing Lorica Segmentata? Or just use Marian Romans Are there any other suitable 15mm ranges? |

Julius Caesar's invasion was made during his campaigns in Gaul, therefore Marian Roman figures would do. Cretan archers and slingers would still serve as auxiliaries. Corvus Belli make the legionary, but lack the other troops. Essex 15s could fill the shortage. Early Imperial types would be appropriate for the larger invasion under the Emperor Claudius (AD 43), nearly 100 years later. Cheers, |

Remember that any cavalry would likely be drawn from non-Romans so you could conceivably use Gallic or Germans for your horse.a |

Caesar's mounted troops in Britain were Gallic auxiliaries, not Germans or Spanish. Other 15mm figures available include Irregular, Minifigs and Old Glory. |

For the legionaries as well as the other options you could also look at Freikorps: link or Magister Militum: link But the Corvus Belli Marians look to be very nice. If I can make a suggestion, it might be worth looking at Xyston Gauls for your mounted types as they will be a different style from your Corvus Belli Britons while still being about the right size. Of course, you could just go CB for your Gallic mounted auxiliaries too :) Here are some (not quite finished at this time) Xyston to give you an idea of what they look like:
The downside to Xyston is that there is quite a big of pre-prep work required – fitting riders to horses, affixing shields, drilling spearholes etc – so that can get a bit frustrating. Good luck with the project, anyway, and post a few pictures showing how you get on. Cheers, Aaron |
