Is it possible that in the Montvert magazine (Parthians on the cover) stood an article about Scythian/Sarmatian (leather) defensive armour? If so, can somebody help me with scans of this article please?
If I confuse the article with an article in Slingshot, please let me know.
Thanks
Greetings
Philipus

Montvert "Ancient Warrior", Volume 1 Winter 94/9, page 18: article "The Sarmatians and the Development of Early German Mounted Warfare" by Roy Boss, illustrated by Keith McWilliams.

The article does have sections on equipment which mention armor, for example: ("… Armour is worn by the chiefs and notables and consists of iron plating or toughened leather. Proof against blows, it is cumbersome when a man tries to get up after being unhorsed' (TACITUS HIST: 1.79)"). Unarmoured troops are mention as wearing "quilted" armor. Similar fragments of armor information are interspersed throughout the article, but the article itself is not on armor, per se. So perhaps the article you seek was elsewhere?
