So,here I am,putting my Mighty Empires campaign together. Being that I have little to no pocket money,I have been putting together a campaign for "Italianesque"Wars. We are going to use Maximillian! for the tabletop games. The original Mighty Empire rules I downloaded for free off the internet, and I am going to leave them in the PDF reader of my wifes Kindle to save the printing cost. I found the original hexes in a file on the WAB Yahoo group.I downloaded those and printed them on plain paper using Windows Paint.
My biggest hurdle was how to mount the hexes.I came up with mounting a sheet of cork to a sheet of cheap foamcore.I then bought a piece of posterboard and cut it to fit onto the cork.I will cut out the paper hexes,do a dry layout on the posterboard and then glue them down with rubber cement.

For the map markers,I have planned as follows-strait sewing pins with the colored balls on the end to show hex possession.I have barrel shaped plastic thumbtacks to indicate villages, cities, etc. For the banners,I am going to get flat headed thumbtacks-I have some 6mm Italian Wars figures that I will glue down to the tops. For various markers needed,I am using the offcuts from the posterboard. Finally,I havent decided how to do the baggage-it will either be the round white sewing rings or paper counters. I'm hoping to have less than $15 USD in this project but get lots of fun out of it.

The last time I checked, years ago, there were sites online that provided lots of fan-created hexes, too. They might still be out there, if you want to add some more variety.

Are you sealing the hexes? You should at least use some kind of spray sealer, or a single drop of water could wipe out an entire kingdom. grin

That could be a catastrophic event,or we could say the Dutch have landed.;).No,I hadnt considered that-we do have some spray used to seal jigsaw puzzles.

To make the Mighty Empire rules and Maximillian fit,we got lucky- ME states the maximum size of a banner is 1500 pts.Maximillian states roughly 125 points,so increase the army size to 150,and divide the ME numbers by 10.So,to raise troops,1crown = 100 ME points, for our purpose it will be 10.That will equal 2-3 stands of infantry or 1 stand of Gendarmes-sounds about right to me!My gaming buddy,Talisman loves the French with their mounted tin cans.I pointed out to him that he will need some peasants, too. If he gets hit with attrition rolls it will be very expensive otherwise.

We will also need to come up with some "Heroic" points as well, earned in battle from heroic actions. Those will be used to upgrade units-Max has 3 levels of grading in the optional rules-raw,ordinary and veteran.Three levels of generals too-I can imagine elite generals being the targets of assasins, and the permanent deployment of agents to counteract them. I'm also toying with the idea of creating mercenary units, with the highest bidder obtaining them. They'll have to be elites to get people to bid.

I didnt convert anything with the hexes.I simply downloaded them from the WAB Yahoo group file and opened them up with Windows Paint program in order to print them out. I have finished cutting out all the paper hexes,I might lay the map out this afternoon.I still need to procure the rest of my pins before I start, though.
