I'm going to be in London at the end of May next year. I was hoping some kind people could point me towards gaming clubs that I could visit. Also, are there any good gaming stores in the London area? Finally, would there happen to be any game shows in the area between May 25th and June 1st 2014?

I appreciate any suggestions anyone can provide.

Hi,

In the centre of London you have Orcs Nest – orcsnest.com

In Finchley, easily reachable on the Northern Line you have probably the bset boardgames shop in the UK – Leisure Games – leisuregames.com

I'm not aware of any London/SE shows in late May, but there certainly are some in places like Sheffield. Nearer the time, check here: link

Gaming clubs? For boardgames Swiggers is a friendly central London Club: boardgamegeek.com/guild/1672

Toy soldiers? A lot of clubs are in the suburbs/periphery, but you might want to look at the Central London Wargamers Club: clwc.org.uk – I haven't been for ten years…

Central London Wargames Club meet on Monday and Thursday evenings at a pub near Euston (which has very nice curries on Thursday; for food on Monday there is a decent chippy around the corner.

We're mostly historical gamers, although some of us are also into SF. If you let us know what you're interested in it shouldn't be difficult to find someone to game with.

Midpoint has already mentioned Orcs Nest and Leisure games. Another shop in London is dark Sphere near Waterloo: darksphere.co.uk

The Exiles Wargames Club meets up on a Thursday evening in the basement of the Crown and Cushion pub close to Waterloo station.

As mentioned on our website we only run one game per session in which everyone plays. This helps emphasise the social nature of the club. Further details at: link

The website also shows what we have previously played and our upcoming games to give an idea of the periods we cover.

In addition to the shops mentioned above, there is also the Ian Allan shop (close to the Dark Sphere shop): link

Hope that you will be able to drop by for some games, we will even buy you a drink or two!

Loughton Strike Force – a friendly bunch who meet in North East London on Tuesday nights. We'll give you a game :-)

These requests always make me smile. Taking 'London' as the area inside the M25 orbital motorway, and assuming an average of 30 miles across, that's almost 9000 square miles, and a population probably close to 14 million ….

I live out near the Western edge, and it would take me a good hour to get to any of the Central London clubs, possibly 75-90 mins to drive to the club in Loughton.

If you have an idea of where of where you will be based, it would be a lot easier to find a nearby club.

In North London there's Finchley Games Club which is very near Leisure Games (the two have a lot of links; half the staff are members there). They mainly do boardgames and RPGs (and the boardgames tend to be Euro trading and building games) but in theory they will play anything; including miniature wargames.

Thanks for all of the suggestions so far. They certainly provide me with plenty of alternatives to investigate.

Guthroth, at the moment I don't know where I will be staying or exactly what else I will be visiting while I am in London. So, the best I can do ath this time is gather information on what alternatives are available, analyze them and then make some decisions. More information is better than less for making these decisions.

GLC Games Club meets every Monday (except bank holidays because the venue is closed) at the Conway Hall, Red Lion Square, from 6.30ish onwards.

Unfortunately the only Monday between the dates you give happens to be 26th May…which is a bank holiday.

However there is a Facebook page for the club, that you can use that to get in touch and meet up when you're over here.
