Ahoy, manufacturers! I want to start a discussion thread about civilian minis (25/28mm scale) I and perhaps others (speak up, y'all) would like to add to our collections and use in our games. All-purpose figures for Pulp, Sci-Fi, Gangster, Skirmish, Superhero, Zombie, and any other period of level of game. While military and fantasy figures, armed for combat, have always been the mainstay of our armies, more and more games require bystanders or non-combatant types and even though sources for these have improved a great deal, there are still types I can't seem to locate but would buy if I could. So this thread is a place for folks to add their own wants and list any suppliers for what other people are looking for but can't find on their own. I will start with some identifiable unarmed civilians who in the past (and might still) wear distinctive "uniforms". These are surprisingly hard to find compared to run-of-the-mill citizens. My top wants ("man" used as a term of convenience, apologies to the ladies): Milkman Ice Cream Man Garbageman Custodians Soda Jerk Postman Diner Cooks Cocktail Waitresses (esp. in garish costumes) Fops in blazers and boaters Sweepers with brooms/mops Chimney Sweeps Rock Musicians Street Buskers Salvation Army solicitors and esp. Hippies! (see a separate thread I intend to start on this subject). More to come from me and anyone else interested! Thanks for your ideas and your suggestions. |

Why would you need uninformed civilians? |

Colonists and ship's crew along the lines of Aliens, going about their jobs would be very cool in 28mm. Usable for near future, far future, and Post Apocalyptic. No weapons, please. |

You need them because they are part of the environment. Lots of workers wear uniforms, as piper mentions. They are on the street in towns and cities. In my VBCW games I have lots of non-combat civilians around -- maids, butlers, salvation army, etc. Also am working on combat units of civilian types -- miners, railroad workers, tradesmen. Already have a Boys Brigade unit and a Royal Mail Rifles unit. Here is an example of a nice mailman, forgot who makes it.

I did 2 conversions based on the Wargames factory Zombies. The first was a mailman (Milliput bag on back, grey uniform), the second was a UPS driver (brown uniform, delivery truck). They certainly added a lot of diversity to the horde. I suppose with some repair work they could be 'Alive'. The WG survivors could be converted to what you want. Plastics are SOOOO easy to convert! |

Salvation Army solicitors --------------- I didn't know they had a legal dept! is that an Americanism? In the UK the term is only applied to lawyers (a solicitor as opposed to a barrister) and also to the actions of those who drive around lost and ask a lady for directions. |

Bobgnar, I recognize that figure! He is one of a pack of "Foreign Legion Renegades", one of three distinctive figures, but I forget who makes them,. I like the idea of painting him as a postal deliveryman. "Solicitors" yes, I paused when I wrote that, but I didn't know what else to say. Not the musical bands (altho' those would be awesome!), but the guys and gals who solicit donations. Maybe I could have said "beggars" but that's cruel. Anyway, beggars, yes! Panhandlers! Add those to the list. And miners, yes, and railway workers, yes yes! These are what I mean. There are lots of civilians in suits and business wear, and women in day dress, but not as many workers and service tradesmen as I would like. Thanks for the tips above. Keep 'em coming, plus more suggestions for types of figures. (Uniformed versus uninformed. The OFM made me check for typos.) |

Why would you need uninformed civilians? What other kind is there? |

Check Hasslefree. They have a few unarmed, or at least poorly armed, civilians. Beautiful sculpts, btw. Heresy also has a few. Reaper also has a few. I bought a bunch of figures of scared-looking civilians from Mega Minis last year, including a homeless guy waving a stick. I gave him a small dog, and he became my favorite zombie survivor: link I think the Mega Minis figures originally came from Alpha Forge (?), but now that MM has closed its doors, I'm not sure where you could find them now. As for what I'd be interested to see, ancient civilians from the so-called "biblical period". I would love to build some Sea Peoples' baggage trains as depicted on the wall reliefs at Medinet Habu, but it only works if there are some road-weary women and a few rugrats. |

I though Mega Minis was still open until years end, but that they were selling off the molds until then. Have the shut down already? |

Mega Miniatures
Here is what it says on there site: "This is your last chance to buy Mega Miniatures products at our regular low prices because we are closing down our online shop on Sunday December 29th 2013 at 10:00pm Eastern standard time." |

Ah, so you still have a chance. The rest of that range is really cool. There's a businessman a wealthy-looking lady, a worker in overalls, and an old lady. They're all desperately flailing around with makeshift weapons – an umbrella, a golf club, shovel, etc. |

In 15mm there is a need for pre war civilians. Not sure how commercially viable it will be but VBCW players need to get inventive to fill gaps. Blue moon do a few, but they can be difficult to match. Piggies have some. I |

Wargames Factory Apocalypse Survivors are a great souce of civilian anythings, Here are some of mine from the Men sprue:
Takes very little conversion work to tweak them from their default poses. The Women kit is likewise excellent and adds a variety of other weapon models not on the Men sprue (uzis, double shotguns, MACs, a revolver) |

Antenociti has some civilians and security guards. link Also Crooked Dice has minions in boiler suits and various 'futuristic' clothing. link link Urban Mammoth's Militia might also be of use: link |
