I'm beginning a 54mm Napoleonic journey and wanted to get some ideas back from
y'all. I've got tons (literally) of 15mm, 28mm Napoleonics in my collection.
My current plan is to paint British and/or Russians and paint a French opposing
force.

Here's my question. Do y'all paint a specific OB or corps/division in 54mm as I
have in 15mm and 28mm or do you just paint a "generic French force" with perhaps
a core group of French infantry and filling in some of the gaps with allies such
as Westfalians, Saxons, Bavarians, etc.?

I guess I'm at a fork in the road where either I paint what I think looks cool
or march in step painting the same ole' same ole'.

Your thoughts?

I tend to pick an OB and work off of that, but since 54mm figures take up more space, maybe paint the units that you want in your army instead

I build generic armies and specialty units.

Generic armies.

I work off an OB; currently working on Battle of Hubbardton (VT) for the AWI. It keeps me focused.

I'd be lying if I didn't say I start with painting up a scad of ADC's first, then The Empress Dragoons trumpeter, and maybe a few officers… then I get distracted again by something else.

Lately I put aside a couple of cool officer types as the "dessert" when I finish a unit of line.
but more to the point of your question, I agree with Augie, paint units you want. I've never been turned away from a game because I brought too many units of Dragoons or light cav.

Cheers

I would go for what looks good – given the eclectic mix of figures available I will be painting units as I buy them, so those HaT Wuttemberg and Bavarians will get some action, alongside Airfix Scots. Mix and match like we would have done in the old days grin
