Slowly but surely, my 28mm dinosaur collection is coming together:
OK, so I'm cheating a little, since there are a few prehistoric mammals and other reptiles thrown in there. It's a mix of Safari models, Acheson Creations Primeval Designs, Ral Partha, and a few other minis I've collected over the years (and not everything is shown here). I'm big on twos: Two T. rexes, two Triceratops, two Parasaurolophus, two Ceratosaurs (not pictured), two of Safari's feathered dinosaur Toob (great for smaller dinos and raptors), two Andersarchus, two Brontotherium, two Guanlong, two sabertooths. Still, I have plenty of single figures: A Stegosaurus. An Allosaurus. A Carnotaurus. A (extremely large) Postosuchus. A Nanotyrannus. A Doedicurus. I also have a small herd of Styracosaurs, in the plastic baggie. And several smaller prehistoric animals I haven't listed.
As you can tell, most are unpainted at this time. I'm working the courage up to do it, because I have only painted human figures in the past. It is going to be a long project since I'm a slow painter – not to mention I'm in the middle of painting up some steampunk minis – but I'm using this post to give me a kick in the butt. Anyone else like me and collecting as many dinosaur minis as you can get your hands on? Know any other sources of prehistoric figures in the 28mm range? |

I have six or so dollar store triceratops, and a nice Jurassic Park toy Spinosaurus I am puttying up. My cowboys will be dino hunting
Once upon a time, I had a Dinosaur Box full of appropriately sized to dinosaurs, for an Eldar Exodite project. Long since gone, and I miss it sevetal times a year

Looking good! I started this about 10 years ago. Thankfully, I was able to buy a bunch of compies and raptors from HLBS before they got rid of them. You need small dinos too. I also got a load of Cavemen from them and Copplestone. Plastic dinos already painted are a good option (as you noted). I pick up some with my Museum discount when we go to the local one here in Cincy. Lately I have been getting Wooly Mammoths and Tree Sloths. Man eating plants can be interesting too. Thanks, John |

Actually, it looks like HLBS still sells some dinos, so I might be picking them up in the near future. (Esp. the compys) |

Well, I'll be dipped. He is selling them again. Good to know. I might pick up more. Thanks, John |

I think everyone should own dinosaurs! I am lucky to live just a little bit away from the Royal Tyrrell museum, and the heart of dinosaur country. Spoiled for all things dinosaur! |

You might also want to look for Rhode Island Novelty dino skeletons. They sell on Amazon @ 12 for about $8USD, and are commensurate in size with the ones on your table. Even if you're not into zombie dinosaurs (which I suppose is possible), they make good terrain pieces for such an environment. They also make a good, cheap way to fill a reasonable size natural history museum in 28mm
lots of related scenarios in that. |

Don't forget Dollar tree. |

@etotheipi: I already have those skeletons -- both full-sized and mini "party" sized. I've also found Dollar Tree a great source for dinosaur bones: TMP link and TMP link @John: There are actually a couple Dollar Tree dinos in the pic. One looks like a cross between an Allosaurus and a T. rex but is labeled a Dilphosaurus. Go figure. |

I can strongly recommend an airbrush for painting. It works especially well on the bigger ones, but I've used it successfully on even the little "tube" dinos. Some of the nicer Safari only need a bit of shading or highlight. My collection would look similar, except I also have a dozen very large vinyl dinos from Horizon, the old Jurassic Park series. It is VERY good news the the HLBS figures are back. The compys are perfect, and just as deadly to small exploring parties as the big guys. |
