The tan color has me stumped. I've looked at lots of advice from model builders online and I've tried all the paints they suggest (humbrol US tan and light earth, vallejo tan earth), but they're just too dark brown. I've even tried Testors old-time Tan, but it's too orangy-looking. I'm looking for a very light faded tan like this:
What paint have you used? |

Officially it was FS 30219 which translates to VMC 874 or Humbrol 119. I agree they seem too red. Try Humbrol 148 Radome Tan. |

I suspect Testor's probably sells a decent match. I ended up using craft paints for a F-4 Phantom I painted up, years ago. |

If you go the craft paint route, FolkArt (or Americana, but I think FolkArt) has a Butter Pecan that is light. There's a Country Tan by Apple Barrel, but they aren't as good a paint as FA or Americana, and it's a bit darker. I'm not near my notes at the moment, but I'm pretty sure I used BP for the 1/600 Cobras you can see in the 3rd last photo from this blog post: link Actually got the photo link to work with Blogspot!

Vallejo Tan Yellow seems as if it might work too |

I used Country Tan. You can lighten it with White, to get various desired shades. It works well for desert armor, and other aircraft camo from the Middle East as well. |
