"Something I've been planning for a long time is the recreation of the Red Shadows in 15mm. "Who are the Red Shadows?" many of you may ask. Red Shadows are brainwashed troops who selflessly devote themselves to the service of their mysterious master, Baron Ironblood. They were the enemies of Action Force (which later merged with GI Joe) and wore a sinister red uniform with black accoutrements"

Are they the inspiration for the Crimson Guard? |

"BLOOD FOR THE BARON!" Those are awesome. Great job on the heads. Now you need some Kraken, Mutons to go with your Skeletrons. (Is the original blogger on TMP or do I cast my praise into the void?) I have a small faction of War of the Roses soldiers set up as (15th century) Red Shadows. No one understands. (That is, no one here understands my admittedly arcane reference to a toy that existed for maybe five years on a different continent). |

How annoying – I had this idea ages ago but for VSF and now someone has beaten me to it – I'm going to beat my feet against the carpet and have a little tantrum – turns out I'm not very original after all ! |

I was going to ask " What decals did you use for the shoulder and helmet flashes ?" Very nicely done. Do you think the Eureka 15mm Sci-Fi Germans would also work? link |

Have only just joined TMP so I've only just spotted that my Red Shadows made it here before me! In reply to deflatermouse, shoulder and helmet flashes are all hand-painted. I did once contact the Blood for the Baron web site to enquire about their decals (mainly to use on vehicles) but I never got a reply. I did look at the Eureka sci-fi Germans but decided that the Peter Pig figures had more variety and weapons which were closer to the original Red Shadows. The Eureka ones could be good as a modern update though. Autos da fe – I'm still thinking abotu what figures to use asthe basis for Kraken and Mutons, also something for the Escape Armour (I'm thinking some sort of GZG power armour?). Any suggestions welcome! |

Just a suggestion, but I used the large droid from GZG's android pack as the basis for my muton. I also used GZG bits for my laser exterminator. Must work out how to put the pictures up here. |

Thanks Mad Boffin, I was thinking about getting a pack of the GZG droids, I'll look into that one! Incidentally, more photographs of my Red Shadows are now on Dropship Horizon's painting competition pages:

I love the Laser Exterminator! Do I recognise various GZG field gun and groudnmount weapons parts in there? Fantastic work, Baron Ironblood looks very sinister too

Correct. GZG bits for the most part, wheels are from a FOW 88mm flak gun. |

MiniMetalMayhem, I'd wager if you had a chat with the Peter Pig fellow, he'd do Red Shadow heads? I've never heard of these guys until recently, and I'd be all for doing an army. |

I'll give PP a try and see what he says! |

Seriously awesome project (yes, I had Action Force as a kid). Love the Z Force stuff – nails the vibe (though some of the weapon choices are bit too contemporary IIRC most of the weapons seemed to lurch between 1970's AK, FN FAL/SLR, M60 etc and WWII in the shape of Thompson's). Red Shadows are excellent as well. |
