Detailed pics of figures, contents, price analysis, etc. Even some ECW satire along with genuine sources of inspiration and resources I'm using. ecw40mmproject.blogspot.com Thanks to Tidders for inspiring me to not only move fwd with my project and switch to 40mm from 25mm, but also to try blogging it! Additional thanks to yarr68 for suggesting I switch to Google Chrome as my blog-browser, solving annoying difficulties. First posts are arguments for 40mm, purchasing/pricing details and comparisons, pics of the first figures out of bag, and a PRODUCT REVIEW. They are assembled and cleaned, and I'll post that today. Also are MEDIA suggestions for books and music so far. Future posts will include SCENARIOS and BATTLE REPORTS, PAINTING GUIDES, STORIES, RULES and GALLERY PICS of finished figures, and much more. |

I've been buying 54s lately (not ECW); I really like the larger figs. Good luck with your project. |

54mm will be my final project when I really can't see anything, and I've lots of retirement money! Or perhaps they'll have them in plastic by then

Very good blog start. I aggree with going with 40mm also. I switched from Alamo in 25mm to Alamo in 40mm and have not regretted doing so. The visual appeal, painting, converting and customizing figures is all the more fun. Plus when you look at the cost of some of the 28mm ranges these days, they is not much difference. I think you made the correct decision. |

I too have went thru various size figures scales before I finally settled on 40mm. I started with 54mm then to 1/72 plastic figures, then to 20mm then to 15mm then to 25mm then to 28mm. Finally, I got rid of everything and have settled on the 40's because I can see and paint the details much better and you can see the efforts on the tabletop better and also gaming on the tabletop doesn't take up much more room than 28mm figures. I now have the Wild West, Medievals, AWI and ACW in 40mm and am really enjoying painting and playing. Not putting down any other scales, it is just what I settled on. I have been eyeing up Chris's 40mm ECW also and his Zulu wars but not enough in the Zulu range to push me over yet! Have great fun on your new project. |

I agree on the Zulu range, would like to see that expanded as well. I am also into 40MM ACW as between S&S and Trident thier is an excellent selection avialable. |

It was a close toss-up between ECW and AWI. In fact there's a lot more figures and brands for the AWI, especially by Trident. What won me over in the end was the cavalry. I like having all three branches in a battle, and cavalry played a huge part in the ECW, not so much in the AWI. Since I live in 1777 central, I was really leaning to a campaign in my area. But there were entire battles of horse in the ECW, and the 3-4 varieties are enough for me. Plus it's a lot more exotic than AWI, I think. Terminology, dress, weapons, etc. Yet the arguments of religion and power are still with us today. |

Finished getting caught up with "the blog". Now that I've figured it out a bit, it'll be easier to do regular posting instead of this initial big push. I finished cleaning and assembling my first two figures, the commanders. And thus the story begins

I just wish someone in Australia would stock 40mm; postage makes too unappealing due to the weight

nice blog so far – will follow your project with interest -- Allan |

Australia is brutal – I sent a package there with some lead in it, a bit heavy, and it was $75 USD registered. EVer since surface mail ended, we're stuck with airmail. Thank the geniuses in congress for that. |

I'd be happy to have someone in Australia stock our figures. Trident Designs 40mm |

I've been thinking about 54mm a call to arms figures, but settled for the more usual 15mm in the end. Peer pressure for you. |

Highlandbevan, yeah, I know what you mean. I think what really changed my mind is getting burned on a few projects that were supposed to be done with others. They got interested, then got me interested, then when I bought into it and started painting and asked when the next game was, they had moved on to something else. Needless to say, quite annoying with a hobby as involved as this! So took the opinions of some people on the 40mm yahoogroups seriously. Their advice – do both sides of any project, so you can always host a battle. Then if anyone wants to join in they can start using their regiments every time they play. Good for them, good for you. This is my new tactic for all my gaming. Except for some huge ones like Flames of War, I always plan both sides. Very easy for ECW since most of the figs can fight on either side, especially if they are in Blue or Red! Personally, I think 54mm is a bit too big except for skirmish games. But 40mm is big but still unit compatible. It'll probably be the largest I go for a long time. Cheers! |

Alex, Might I suggest that you add a link to your "figures currently up on eBay" so that people can find them easily? -- Jeff

I posted my ID and a link in the first post, but perhaps I should repeat it as the blog gets larger. I already have my next few posts lined up! So far it's a fast-moving project

Done, with some pics in case anyone wants to see the painting in general. I'm planning a similar style for the 40mm. Also a couple more reviews on music and inspirational reading for the ECW. I've been slogging my way through 20 S&S pikemen, but the holiday is interrupting all painting action. |

"Memoirs of a Cavalier", which you mention, can be read online or downloaded for free from a couple of locations, which I've mentioned in a comment on your blog . . . and which should be posted once you've "approved" my comment. -- Jeff

done! I opted for "anyone can post with approval" so as not to deprive any honest soldier of the opportunity to state an opinion, but to minimize the opportunities to have porn sites and Canadian meds spam my blog. So please, everyone with a sincere interest feel free to post, I check every day! Cheers! a. |
