We, of course, used Field of Glory rules. There are 4 of us.
We played a complete game each day of the show in a leisurely fashion, often stopping to talk to the passers-by.
This meant 7 hour games but we could have easily fought these out in 4 hours: not bad for 1700 pts a side battles.
Both games resulted in NKE victories. The Egyptians had a Hit & Run army & used appropriate tactics. Their enemies (labelled 'Sea Peoples) were the Mycenaeans (essentially a slow-moving close combat army) & Hittites (a balanced combination of the two styles).
As always with FoG, effective movement & deployment will win the battle & the NKE managed to gain the high ground in the middle of the battlefield, gaining 'uphill superiority in melee.
The Egyptian 'arrow storms' usually meant the Sea Peoples superior infantry had dropped in morale & even lost bases before achieving impact.
Sea battles aren't part of the rules so we used variable movement for the boats (2 MUs & single dice throw), Battlewagon combat factors & ultimately the usual infantry battle rules when two ships were in contact.
Highlight of the game for me was when my Trojan Horse (Dardanian Light Cavalry), attacked and destroyed a NKE Light Chariot Battle Group.
FoG are a difficult set to master but worth the effort IMO.
