Been waiting a long time for this one (January is when I first heard of it), it arrived on Friday, I read it over the weekend. Focuses solely on Barksdale's Charge, the 13th, 17th, 18th and 21st MS and their actions on the 2nd day of the battle. Great book IM, learned a great deal about that famous charge, author floats some pretty interesting theories on the battle as well. |

The man himself was hit something like 7 times during the fight and still lingered before he finally died. That is one tough hombre. |

I think this is a very interesting topic and one which has a lot of tactical information to reveal to us. After getting about one third of the way through it I became very disenchanted with this book and as a result posted some unflattering comments about it here on the TMP site. After thinking about it I deleted my comments in fairness to the author, and am finishing the book. I still have some problems with it but different opinions are what makes the world go round I guess. It would have been better however, in my opinion, if the same phrases were not repeated so often and if it did not come off so much like a rooting section for "Ole Miss." Other than that I don't regret buying this book. John Miller |

I have a new book coming out in June,"Stand to It and give Them Hell," (Savas Beatie). It covers the action on July 2 on a small unit level from Cemetery Ridge to Little Round Top and has a great deal of material on Barksdale's Charge, with the emphasis on the men's perspective and troop locations. I have a blog Ramblings of a Civil war Historian in which I have addresses a few of the items covered by the book. 58 detailed maps. I have only glanced through Mr. Tucker's book and do not have an opinion about it one way or the other. |
