Dear All scholars and those who have built extensive collections of the Napoleonic era Austrian Army,
Here is what I am addressing in order to see what may exist or what one has done (and willing to share along with why one had use that scheme)
that may have not been addressed before.
Many know there were three issues of Austrian flags present during the Napoleonic period.
There is much common documentation that many other nations, including the French, had a tendency to hang on to the older issue along with the possible fact that the new issue was most likely awarded on a case by case basis and thus
.there were more than one issue present in most Nation's field Army.
What doesn't seem to be common knowledge is
what issue & to what regiments were present in the Austrian units at anyone period [and/or when they may have gone to new issues]. This is documented fairly well with the Russians but, does such info exist for the Austrians?
Questions like
did the regiments at the surrender of Ulm lose their colors and thus had to have them replaced in 1806 etc
answered will help in determining what units may have what. other is regimental archive research that must exist somewhere and perhaps summarized
.
So to be specific
1) Has this already been addressed before such as in the TMP? I do not know if this topic has been address already and my search has shown up empty.
TMP link2) Is there any sources that can shed light to what regiments had what issue for any specific period beyond 1799 ( it can be assumed most would have the oldest issue at this as a starting point much like the 1792 for the Russian.
3) If not the documentation to shed light available, what did one do in their collection and what made you to decide on what issue to be with what regiments
thanks you in advance,
MG
