Hello all, I made a little review of the new 1/1800 miniatures line by Mongoose Publishing. [URL=http://s589.photobucket.com/user/Seijmonsbergen/media/Victory%20at%20Sea/bb7d7eaa-81eb-4467-a897-a6f320c39f98.jpg.html]

They looked really great until I looked at the photos of some of your scratchbuilt models. Compared to those, the professionally produced River Plate ships don't seem to be in the same league! Your Japanese cruiser (sorry can't remember which one) is incredible; I'm not surprised she win a first prize. |

I have these models and i was disappointed with the following: There are no spotting planes to the catapults. The cranes are flat and look odd as they are casted into the hull. GHQ can even Spartan can mange to cast decking lines, these models have none. You would have thought that the larger scale could have produced a better model. |

With decking lines, do you mean the lines that result from the decks being made out of planks? Agreed on the spotting planes, on the other hand, spotting planes would usually not be on the catapults anymore during battle
Maybe a nice add-on for Mongoose to produce, a sprue with seperate spotting planes. |

"GHQ can even Spartan can mange to cast decking lines, these models have none." You realise of course that if they did they would be horrendously out of scale, don't you? |

What I don't get is why 1/1800? Last thing we need is yet another scale. |

Isn't 1:1800 the same scale as the Axis & Allies ships? |

Yes, it probably tries to fill the gap that was left by Wizards of the Coast discontinuing the War at Sea line. I think its a scale pleasing to the eye, although some liberties have to be taken with the distances if you want to play on a tabletop

Agreed. There is always the floor or the driveway (where we play 1/1200). Regards, J. P. Kelly |
