So, I have 118 28mm zombies to assemble and paint….. however, my google-fu has failed me when looking for tutorials on zombie flesh. I come up with plenty, but a lot of them seem to lack photos due to dead pic links. (No pun intended… ) and most of what I come up with are for gore studios, make-up artists and the like.

Would really love it if anyone can point me to one which covers various stages of decay as well. I remember seeing one on here like that some time ago, but I can't seem to locate it now.

Thanks in advance.

Well, at 118 figures to go, I recommend a really simple scheme.

Mine are primed black, base-coat of purple, drybrush of "heather" (a pinkish purple), and then a wash of Devlan Mud.

Eyes are just dots of white or light grey.

I have this image that I got from a blog discussing this topic. I was not able to find the blog post, but the essential information is in the photo.

My new technique is based on combining a couple of other people's ideas. I guess brand names are interchangeable.

1. Clean flash, rinse and mount on painting handle (Wooden spool)
2. Prime with GW white
3. Wash entire figure including base with Reaper Gray liner that has been diluted about 1:1 with future floor wax and water (magic wash). Vary the intensity but do not allow it to puddle.

Step 3 does several things. First it pops the detail out at you. With the steps that follow it makes the decay of the figures look more natural. Sort of from the inside out rather than something slapped over the top.

4. Color in eye sockets with 5 Micron red (or your favorite) felt tip pen.

5. Make a magic Wash of the skin color you want to use which I vary in each batch of figures. Repeat if you want more color at any particular spot. Again avoid puddling.

6. Repeat step 5 for each article of clothing using your color of choice. Keep each coat thin and build up to the amount of transparencey you want.

By the way these layers/glazes dry quickly. So by doing batches you can keep cycling through the colors.

7. Once you are happy with the figure, finish off the base.

8. After the figure has dried completely give it a very light coat of dullcoat.

I really did not like my original efforts with (Zombicide) zombies. But with this technique the figures are looking much better. I will try to post some pics on my blog.
