Be sure to lay down the law, that YOU, as GM, are the final arbiter of disputes, rules, and legality of characters.
EPs might be awarded for extra effort at roleplaying, but suckups should lose precious EPs.
All that matters is the quality of the hack to the players, but as GM, you must craft artful scenes and settings, or memorize them for recitation if purchased. Of course, your players will simply ignore your supreme efforts and attempt to slay all the innocent NPCs as well as the villains, because of the EPs to be gained.
Do NOT let any player touch your dice, peruse your books, or even peek over your GM shield. Those are your instruments of god-like power and none of the unwashed should ever be allowed to insert themselves into your sphere of expertise and responsibility.
Also, constantly roll your dice behind your shield, say everyone two minutes or so. Occasionally, you should allow yourself to grin and chortle, as those something sinister is in the offing. Never allow a player to see your own dice results. They do not have the need to know.
If a character dies, it is dead, unless there is some magical or divine means of reanimation or resurrection. Do not allow tears, whining, begging or bribery to sway you towards having sympathy towards the justifiable end result of sheer player foolishness. Just hand the victim, erm, player, a new character sheet and wish them luck.
Lastly, if you do not yet read KODT, get a subscription. Consider it a primer.
