Okay has anyone tried playing a zombie game where nukes get involved by the government to control the spread of the outbreaks, or have their survivors trying to get out of the blast zone before time runs out? Thinking of pulling some of the rules from the game "Aftermath's Survival Guide" now I know it's still around!
linkAny thoughts or input? This would be great terrain for such a game

Dropping nukes on zombies makes about as much sense as throwing tennis balls at them. But in case of a zombie invasion, I imagine there might be a number of covert installations that might need to be "downgraded" for the public good. |

Oh I beg to differ, I truly believe that if such a thing was to happen, governments would attempt to use such weapons as sterilization by fire. |

game on, looks a stunning set up

Since radiation doesn't seem to affect zombies in most cases, I think a nuke would be overkill. I'd go with a MOAB or FOAB thermobaric bomb: link
That would yield similar destruction and fire effects, but without the radiation. Makes it a little easier on any survivors, if you care about that kind of thing. Of course, if you don't have access to MOABs or FOABs, but you do have nukes . . . |

@jpattern2: Good choice of weapons, the poor man's nuke, that would fry tons of zombies and destroy a couple blocks of buildings, |

Nice touch with the cars, where did you get those? |

In the book 'Day by Day Armageddon' and the sequel 'Beyond Exile', Nukes were used. The effect was that about 1:10 of the zeds were 'invigorated'. Instead of being like the TWD zombies (slow, stupid) they were anything between lolloping along through to sprinting, and appeared to show more active ability, so one or two held implements even, or could almost work out where prey was hiding (survivors). The fall out (excuse the term) of the irradiated zeds was they were radioactive, therefore even if you killed one in combat, you could still get a lethal dose of radiation, almost like killing an Aliens Xenomorph in combat and getting sprayed with blood. In my zombie game we play, each time a group of zeds becomes aware of any survivors, I roll a D6 dice for each model in the unit (so 5 models = 5 dice rolled) Each roll of a 6 is a 'special', and ranging anywhere from fatty, a Liche or whatever, through to an Rager or an armoured zed or something. Typically they are Ragers or Fattys so you could substitute your models for irradiated Ragers. Frightening. I've never played a Nukes game but it could be fun. If you have ever seen the film 'The Crazies' then the ending of it may give you some escape ideas for this sort of game or something too. Hope that helps, Arken |

Oh, and I really like that table. You could do with a couple of burned and twisted trees too, for extra creepy-ness! |
War Monkey | 01 Aug 2013 7:57 a.m. PST |
Yes, add a few dead trees
linkshould really add to the terrain like a town square or park another terrain object would be a barricaded area all burnt out where there could have been survivors just for shock value |

I'm in the midst of reading Day by Day Armageddon and the sequel
..I do tend to lock the doors at night now
(shiver)
really nice terrain -great job on the cars
.need to visit the local 'Chinese Warehouse' for a €1.00 EUR cars! |
krieghund | 01 Aug 2013 10:19 a.m. PST |
They used Nukes in " The Return of the Living Dead " and that didn't end well. |
Bobgnar | 01 Aug 2013 11:13 a.m. PST |
A fuel air bomb might be better. I saw a film recently set in Europe what brings up the fact that if the Nuk plants are not controlled they will over heat and release radiation. The survivors of the infected zombie things start to die of radiation poison. |
Mithmee | 01 Aug 2013 12:32 p.m. PST |
Well think on this. Would you want to go into on of Chinese cities after the Zombies took over? Why did the battle of Yonkers end up as a lost. More Zombies than the military could handle. |
jpattern2 | 01 Aug 2013 1:15 p.m. PST |
A fuel air bomb might be better. Bob, MOAB and FOAB are fuel-air bombs, also known as thermobaric bombs. |
Ark3nubis | 01 Aug 2013 2:38 p.m. PST |
As thermobarics were invented by the Russians to kill Afghans hiding in caves, is the explosive effect considerably lessened if it explodes out in the open as opposed to tight spaces like tunnels etc? You could just say they are using Napalm or something instead, highly effective, would have potential splash effect (so simulate radiation) but limited in extent (so won't be nuking an area 1249x the size if your games table) |

Effective videos, WM. And any zombies inside the shock wave that weren't flash-fried would be torn apart or jellied. |
War Monkey | 01 Aug 2013 7:57 p.m. PST |
Of course fighting off radioactive zeds would be pretty cool too, or to having a choice of fighting a large horde of zeds or risk running across a radioactive zone and hope you don't take to many rads, raiding a hospital for rad tags and readers would be in the order as well |
Whatisitgood4atwork | 01 Aug 2013 8:07 p.m. PST |
In his not-zombie post-apocalyptic survival novel 'The Death of the Grass' ('No Blade of Grass' in the US) John Christopher had the British govt nuke all the major cities in the UK. It was basically a plot device to explain the lack of millions of starving refugees scouring the countryside, which would have made for a very different story. |
War Monkey | 01 Aug 2013 9:40 p.m. PST |
My thought is that if such a thing was to happen or say did happen then the government would advise survivors via EBC (Emergency Broadcast System) to go to parks or sites central within the cities to all those whom live around it, that would seem to have space feasible for helicopters to land and perform such rescues, drawing the zeds to the center of such cities as well, like they did in one of the AVP movies and then WHAM or should I say more like WOOOOOFFFF!!!! Sacrifice a few to save the many. |
skyking20 | 02 Aug 2013 1:21 p.m. PST |
What were those tactical nukes they had (and never talk about anymore) where it would kill the people but did very little property damage? Kill the Zombies then list the goods on eBay! |
jpattern2 | 02 Aug 2013 5:38 p.m. PST |
Neutron bombs. Massively radioactive. |

Love the wrecked cars idea, I'm going to have to use that one! Thanks for the heads up, I have loads of broken ones identical to them that'll do the job! |
War Monkey | 10 Aug 2013 10:40 a.m. PST |
Yes that's my plan as well plus I have a lot of polymer clay, which I will roll out flat and thin then score it with a knife to brick size bake and break, to have piles of brick rubble as well |

Sacrifice a few to save the many always seems to translate to: sacrifice others to save yourself. |
