This looks promising: a pen-and-paper RPG not based on Tolkien, but weird fantasy: link The authors credit Clark Ashton Smith's Hyperborea cycle as a major influence, and I can see the similarities: a civilization that existed before the Ice Age, Lovecraftian monsters, prehistoric survivors. I love Smith's stories, much more so than much of traditional fantasy, so this is right up my alley – except it isn't a miniatures games, and the systems they're using are not mini friendly. That's a shame. Not that I need to worry. Sadly, it doesn't look like they are going to make their goal. Too bad-- we definitely need more original RPG settings on the market. And, oh, if you're interested in Smiths stories, they can be read here: link |

Shoot, I'd pick that up just for the background, but I can't back another KS right now. |

Cool. Here's a link to Smith's stories and poetry: eldritchdark.com Aside from Hyperborea, the stories include his Averoigne and Zothique settings. |

Just as an update, they did make their goal after all; I backed it, I've been heavily considering a similar setting concept (pre-Ice Age 'weird fantasy') for my next RPG campaign and well, why re-invent the wheel if someone else is going to do it for you? :) They are taking Paypal backers still if you are interested. -Will |
