I've read a few threads about the rules differences between Supersystem 2 and 3, but I'm interested in folks opinions on which one they enjoyed better and why.

If I were going to buy on ruleset, should I get 2 (which has supplemental material avaialble) or 3 (which is the most current)?

There aren't any supplements for 2nd – Invasion and Showdown are both for 1st. I'd go with 3rd myself, mostly because I like the layout better, but it isn't a radical improvement over 2nd and it is harder to get ahold of in print if you don't like pdfs. 2nd is arguably the prettiest edition in terms of print books, although I find my comb-bound copy of 3rd handier for gaming.

Of course, the real advantage to 2nd is the 40% discount on it for Old Glory Army members.

Nothing to add but I agree with the previous. I play 3 myself but either is going to serve you well.

Is either more streamlined?

The rules for 3rd are better, and the powers, for the most part, work much better. I would suggest you get older editions as well to port forward some powers that were left out of 3rd edition, like super speed.

3rd, I would say. Not by a lot, but some – you might tend to play more turns, but each individual character's actions tend to go more quickly.

Super speed hasn't been in the game as a single power since 1st, and for good reason – it wasn't very well balanced. Most of its more reasonable effects are simulated under Hypermove and Extra Movement since 2nd, and were carried into 3rd just fine. What isn't there (mostly the double AP thing) isn't something to miss, and won't be very useful under 3rd anyway.

What dice does the system use?

Scott Pyle checking in here from the hinterlands of gamer ennui.

I am working on SuperSystem 3rd ed., Revised at the moment. Why? Mainly because we wanted to get a book into POD (Lulu and Drivethru RPG), and the current layout needs updated and streamlined for that.

This version will have only a few tweaks to the main rules, including working in some errata and a few extra play options. I am also toying with an additional appendix that will include solo rules--SoloSystem.

Now, no promises on this last point. It's a lot of work designing solo rules, but I have angle I think might work.

I stress that the layout for this print book will be paired down, two column, and no frills. It will still include plenty of art and the occasional diagram or two, but I am stressing functionality and accessibility here.

Still have not settled on whether it's better to do 8.5" x 11" or go smaller.

Anyway, sound off if you have any questions.

Thanks!
