I haven't found the link yet, but as most of you may remember, I got 20 pounds of Napoleonics in a trade last year. What a haul! I really wanted the Austrians, and also got the proverbial butt load of French and Russians with some English to boot. I don't really see myself doing the French, but maybe the Italians would be fun. Reading the painting guide book, I thought the French and Italians looked a lot alike. Would the figures be interchangeable, or should I maybe look to trade them for more Austrians? See here… TMP link |

Yep, the cut of the uniforms is the same in most cases, although there are specific unit differences. The Army of Italy (1805-1814) provided about 200,000 men to Napoleon. Many served in Russia under Eugene. |

These are so bookmarked! I would much more enjoy an Italian army than a (Insert favorite French insult here.)army! |

I started by doing Italians but soon found that if I wanted to do historical OOBs then I needed French as well. A brigade of Italians with a brigade of French is a good start. |

I started by doing Italians but soon found that if I wanted to do historical OOBs then I needed French as well. A brigade of Italians with a brigade of French is a good start. But if it's any consolation, most of the "French" units in those OOBs were actually raised from those parts of Italy that had been incorporated into France (e.g., Piedmont), so they're just Italians in blue coats. |

I should have enough to do two brigades. |

I've just posted on my blog with the first of my 15/18mm Piedmontese for 1800, which must count as Napoleonic Italian (just), plus they are allied with Austria at this point… link |

Looking good, but in case this is a converted Blue Moon French 4 pdr, it is ways too small for a French gun |

In 1811 there was an entire Italian division in Suchet's Army of Aragon. Italian Division: Général de division Peyri (4,892) 1st Italian Légère Regiment (2) 2nd Italian Légère Regiment (2) 4th Italian Line Regiment (2) 5th Italian Line Regiment (2) 6th Italian Line Regiment (2) Napoleon Dragoon Regiment (2) Chasseurs Royaux Regiment (2) The bracketed numbers are the numbers of battalions / squadrons. |

In addition to the links above, I've always thought this site offered excellent information about the Kingdom of Italy's forces during the Napoleonic era: link |

I love painting Italian Napoleonics. It was a real treat to paint them after putting together so many French units. I've now got a full Brigade of both Italians and Polish. Here's a link to them on my blog: link |
