Has anyone used these rules for sci-fi games? I like the simplicity they seem to offer, but would like to make use of my collection of sci-fi models for it.

Thanks,

Sean

We will have two versions available.. Single model version and a multifig base like the current MA.

earthad14 Jul 2013 5:57 p.m. PST

That does sound pretty good.

BrotherSevej14 Jul 2013 6:09 p.m. PST

Ok, this one I'll fall for.

Tgunner14 Jul 2013 6:14 p.m. PST

Great stuff Mike! I'm curious to see how this works out.

skinkmasterreturns14 Jul 2013 9:29 p.m. PST

You have my interest.I have all my stuff singly based on washers, but I made sabots for rules that call for multiples on bases, with magnets.

TheRatGod14 Jul 2013 9:56 p.m. PST

ah rebel minis, i love you lmao

elsyrsyn15 Jul 2013 7:55 a.m. PST

Now this should be interesting … I look forward to seeing it!

That's interesting news. I don't suppose the basing will be compatible with Future War Commander? Be nice to be able to use the same figs in both rule sets without rebasing. That sort of versatility helps sales, too. :)

Hmm…fall, you say? Damn it summer! Hurry up and get done! Lol

fullerena17 Jul 2013 10:31 a.m. PST

Ooh. Something to keep an eye out for.

I'm using 50mm squares for 28mm fantasy hese days, two side-by-side for Mighty Armies with doubled ranges. I never did get around to basing any 15mm SF on the same for ASQL – I suppose this'll give me a new basing standard.

So, any hints as to what the default multibasing may be? 50x25, deeper for tanks, same table size as MA? That'd be convenient.

sean6833318 Jul 2013 7:58 a.m. PST

Great news.

Will it be as simple as Mighty Armies? I like the simplicity, but I also like the variety as well.

@Chief Lackey Rich- What basing does FWC use?

On the multi-base version we will probably stay with the 25x50 and vehicles stand alone.

@sean68333- The plan is fast play and simple but like MA, very Tactical.

mashrewba25 Jul 2013 5:51 a.m. PST

I've got a load of epic stuff based on 50x50mm !!!

billthecat10 Sep 2013 11:40 a.m. PST

Can the current version of Mighty Armies be played just as easily with individually based figures? I have a number of 15mm fantasy that I use for an oddball version of French and Indian War so sometimes the troops need to move individually versus in a formation.

Also, does the MA rules cover muskets up till the FIW time frame?

Logain22 Jan 2014 4:37 p.m. PST

Any update on the Eta for this rule set?

No updates right now. Jason has putting some rules to paper, but real life(school and family) has slowed him down.

I am hoping to have a rough frame work soon an start soliciting playtesters..

Well, glad to hear it is still in the works at least. Looking forward to it.

sean6833311 Mar 2014 1:46 p.m. PST

It is good to know that a sci-fi version of MA is still on the horizon, but in the mean time back to my original question.

Has anyone used these rules for sci-fi games. I'm curious if I can just build some archery heavy lists and call that good.

Thoughts?

Rothgar12 Mar 2014 1:16 p.m. PST

Very interesting.. I'd up the range on shooting units. Not sure how you'd do vehicles.

I'd be interested in play-testing a sci fi version. I've got a few con scenarios that could use something fast and streamlined with fire teams.

sean6833313 Mar 2014 9:47 a.m. PST

@Rothgar…I'm thinking of adding "Extended Range" upgrade that will allow infantry to have a range of 15". I will allow any troop to add "Shoot I/II".

For vehicle's I think I will just use chariot, monster, and artillery units as the base. I will also add an "Improved Artillery" upgrade that will boos range to 24". "Artillery" can be added to chariots and monsters.

I may also allow units to move and shoot, but I think that might also be an upgrade.

I cut some bases today so I can put some armies together and give these options a try.

@sean68333- I like that idea. We are looking at vehicles with modified monster stats as well. That gives the vehicle a chance to shrug off large caliber hits.

Infantry we increased the range and added the "scout" missile save(to account for armor)…

We would love to hear about your ideas!

Ok bumping this…
Any new development?

sean6833309 Dec 2015 1:19 p.m. PST

None that I am aware of. I have decided to use different rules for my sci-fi gaming.

If Rebel Minis ever goes down this road, I will certainly check it out.

Capt Flash17 Dec 2015 8:48 a.m. PST

I sent this as a PM to a fellow member, but I wanted to share my
Thoughts here as well:
I've played DBA and found it to be entirely too bland for my personal tastes. I considered HOTT Sci fi but I'm not convinced that shooting is not ranged the way a couple of those guys play it. To be honest, I think that for the multi-based game, Mighty Armies is just right as is, maybe increase the points limit and using the special rules to interpret the various units. I played a couple of the Black Sea Pirates' lists and also used flyers, and it was then that I realized that MA could easily expand into Sci-fi with little to no fuss. The change in emphasis on ranged weaponry gives a different game.
