So I bought the splintered lands campaign and am reading through the rules. Activating a character. Say I choose to activate my kobold & roll only 1 dice. I get a failure. It says I have to nominate another character to get them to activate. Does the kobold who failed to activate count as activated? or can I nominate another and then switch back to the kobold? Thanks Matt |

You only get one chance per turn to activate a given model, but if you are rolling only one die you cannot roll two failures, so would have a chance to activate each model in the warband. But once you have attempted to activate each model your turn ends. OR it ends when you roll two failures. Of course, if you are rolling only one die per model you are likely to end up with your warband scattered out pretty badly. |

If you are new to SBH, I recommend paying close attention to leadership. Leaders improve the Q of their troops within range. AND they can order a group move. You'll want to have snipers and other specialists operating separately, but usually the main mob should be in base to base contact to take advantage of group moves or group shooting, and with a leader close behind. |

Doc has it right. Once a miniature has failed it is done until your next turn. |

Doc has it right. Once a miniature has failed it is done until your next turn. But (unless we've been playing it wrong in Deep Wars) it can attempt activation the very next turn as well, which isn't always obvious to new players. There's no guarantee (or requirement) that all the figures on one side activate before any of them can activate again, so what often happens is one high-Q model activates, the next model fails, then next turn that same high-Q model activates again, then maybe a model or two goes before failing, and the next turn the high_Q model starts the sequence yet again. You can have chump models that spend most or all of the game doing almost nothing, simply because there's always something more important to try to activate first – although you can always take the no-risk 1-die activation option to slowly move them around before starting the riskier activations. Bit like Blood Bowl in that respect – you can always take the safe actions first before attempting anything that might cause a turnover. |

Yes. The GAME hinges on choosing which figure to attempt to activate next, and THEN how many dice to roll. And I've lost or won many a battle because a hero moved too many times compared to his followers and ended up way out by himself. Sticking a sniper or magic user or such out in front, as temptation, will sometimes pull enemy characters or elites into a situation where they can be mobbed. |
