A South Carolina library has "rediscovered" letters from Jones to Joseph Hewes and Benjamin Franklin. They weren't lost, as such, but simply forgotten about in the archives: link

Best of all, they pertain directly to the founding of the American Navy and Jones's ideas and advice regarding the same, so the historical significance is strong.

In any case, a nice little surprise for the Fourth of July!

If you'd bothered to look at the byline, you'd have seen it's an Associated Press article, so your prejudicial statement has zero application to the story.

Now, can we stick with discussing the topic at hand, which is about a very significant historical figure expressing his own thoughts and opinions about a very crucial time in American history and the founding of the American Navy?
