I painted up Rebel Mini's 15mm Government Types – FBI / ATF agents. I wanted to base them as if they were in a parking lot or street, so I gave Citadel's Texture paint a try.

Huh. Guess I will need to add a few GW paints back into my collection!

MaxieTPB30 Jun 2013 9:59 a.m. PST

They turned out nicely. I'll have to give the texture paints a try. :)

ArmysArmy: I have commenting disabled on my blog. The option shouldn't even show up.

Others: Thanks!

Has anyone done a side by side comparrison on something I've used? Like Basetex?

While I've heard some complain about the cost of Basetex (and how easy and cheap it is to make with paint, PVA and sand) it has to be waaaaaay cheaper than teeny, tiny pots of GW texture paint.

And basetex is… ok (for me, anyway). Is the GW stuff so much better?

Has anyone tried both? Just asking before I rush out and buy some :)

John-
I was really disappointed in the GW product. It appears to be regular GW grey paint with fine sand mixed in. In fact, I think I could achieve a better result by mixing my own sand into my own paint.

I prefer artist's acrylic texture gel. It's way easier to use then either pva/sand mix, or GW paint sand mix. It cost me about $9 USD for a really big tube. The GW stuff cost me $5 USD (Aus price) for a tiny little pot.

No knock on Dave's minis though, they look great!

Wow! Those look great!

Hey, sorry I didn't notice people were still adding to this discussion,

The FBI on the back was freehand, and it wasn't too hard, but if you look close it looks a bit cheesy.

It really does just seem to be gray paint with fine sand mixed in. But I was gaming at a FLGS all day, and I always like to buy something when I do that, so I picked this up.

Thanks SpaceJacker – I've only just noticed your feedback.

Just the sort of infoI needed. Think I'll stick to the Basetex I've already bought* then…
