Can anyone tell me if the Roundway Scottish Archer 15mm
Code – RKSC6 is a Highlander or a Lowlander?

Also if he is a Highlander is he wearing helmet and mail shirt?

Thanks.

My FLGS carries these minis and I was just in today, but they were out of the Scottish Archers. I remember seeing this question on the message board so I checked. Sorry I wasn't much help. I know I have these lying around somewhere, because I was going to use them for another game. I seem to remember they had helmets but no mail, but I'm not certain.

Not sure if you are interested in other mfgs, but I think Feudal Castings made a nice chainmail highland archer. I think they were in the later section of the medieval Scots which covered Flodden etc…

Guys…medieval Highland, Lowland and indeed English archers were indistinguishable from one another.

Oh Bugger01 Jul 2013 6:18 a.m. PST

Son of Thor thanks for that.

Rampantlion yeah they are nice enough I have some. Nice guy with a sword too. I'm looking for a bit more variety. So far got some Highland Archers from 15mm.Co that are really nice. I had thought Roundway might complete the set.

Ugly I'm looking for figures to use as New Scots they did not look like English or Lowland archers.

Oh Bleeped text….Not really very clear what you mean by 'New Scots', but so long as you are talking medieval, there's no general visual distinction between Scots, English, Welsh, Irish or even French or Low Countries archers. When you get into the Early Modern period things do (arguably) start to change in that regard, but there again archers start to disappear from the battlefield pretty quickly anyway in favour of guns.
The pike man (above) with the pavise ….I'm not aware offhand of any historical examples of Scottish pikemen with pavises. Also, the guy with the longbow and the two-handed sword…you might conceivably find such a man in a force of Scots – Highland or Lowland – but don;t think of him as being representative of a troop-type that you can field as a unit. Two handed swords were no more common among Highland troops than they were among Lowland (or French or German or Dutch) forces.

New Scots were from the Isles mainly and served as contract troops in Ireland. Also known as Redshanks, bare legs you see. They served in their hundreds, in units as was often noted at the time.

Anyhow mail, helmet, bow and big sword and that's what I want because it accurately depicts the troop type. But like most of us I want variety.

Tumbleweed showed me a photo of one which was helpful.

Maybe there are others hence my question about Roundway.

You can certainly find plenty of examples of Scottish troops – highland, island and lowland – serving in Ireland for pay, but you really would n't find units of two-handed swordsmen – it was always the weapon of the specialist, not the rank and file.
I know exactly what you mean about variety…you just can't get enough when it comes to medieval armies.

Tell you what get back to me when you have worked out what the references we have mean. You can quote them we can discuss it.

It might help if you do the New Scots thing first.
