Hi all
I'm planning to get into naval wargaming and FAI seems to be a good rule set. I'm just wondering, is it a stand alone set or do I need GQ3 to use it?

Thanks

Kristian

It's stand alone – and very good.
My favourite rules for the period by far.
Plays almost as fast as GQ1/2 but with much more flavour to individual ship designs which adds much to my interest given the wide differences in approaches to naval design that coulsd still be seen in WW1 compared to WW2.
The fact that any up dates and amendments are available free on line is a bonus.
I hope you will enjoy them too
Doug

Thanks! I'll buy them right away!

Second the endorsement by fantasque, and add that the rules do a really good job showing the way coal influences tactics (clear and easy rules for coal smoke and stoker fatigue) compared to oil.

I'll third that as well. Plus with all the other stuff that has come out for it, it's well worth the investment!

Another recommendation. GQ3 (and FAI) are just in the "sweet spot" for us. Enough complexity to be interesting, well researched, but you can still finish a reasonable size action with up to a dozen ships a side in an evening

Where is it possible to get a copy nowadays?

I tried the ODGW site and no luck.

Thanks in advance.

I asked for recommendations (for doing 1/18,000 scale with 1/6,000 minis), for something not too complex. I went with FAI, and while I haven't played yet I received my copy, downloaded all the updates. So far I think it is a fairly easy system that should produce some good flavor. I'm going to run some tests over Christmas to see if some house rules I have in mind are necessary and/or advised, but I like it so far, and plan on getting the expansion online for more nations (since my focus is in the Med). The base scale is bigger than I find ideal, but they sell turn meters, etc. for $5 USD on the website for 1 cm=200 yards. I got my physical copy from noble games.

It is available on the ODGW web site.
On the top banner…Go to (STORE)
then pick (POPULAR PRODUCTS)
then go to page 2.

its a PDF download for $31.95 USD

Just got this in the mail yesterday and did a quick pickup of Hipper's BCs vs Beatty's big cats.

Game flows quick and smoothly with reasonable historicity.

I have laminated the data cards and charts. Use a dry erase marker and you're set to go…

Have already ordered the supplement as well.

Very very nice game system.

I may have found the system I will be using for the big Jutland game at Texicon next year.
