I want to get into Fantasy Napoleonic gaming. What is the difference between Flintloque and Slaughterloo? It looks like the same figures are used. Also, could you recommend a starter army or armies to get into. Are there battle packs or deals to get started with. Newbie to the game. Thanks Jonnathon |

Flintloque is skirmish, Slaughterloo is mass battle. |

I like the Flintloque minis a lot. I played Slaughterloo at a convention and I thought they were rather 'chart heavy'. Flintloque is fun, we've played quite a bit. But if you're looking to do Skirmish, may I recommend using the Flintloque minis with the "Song of Drums and Shakos" rules from Genesha Games? That way, I think you'll get the best of both worlds! We've started doing that and played some really good Fantasy Napoleonic games! Dave |

Flintloque is a great game- fun, quick and very light hearted. |

You only need 5-10 minis per side to start playing Flintloque. Also join the Yahoo group. Good people. link TMP TMP link |

There is a Flintloque Lite set of rules free for the asking at Alternative Armies. Just send them an email. Adress is on their site. |

I myself have been considering trying out SoDaS with FL minis. I was only just a moment ago reading the rules. I have long considered picking up Slaughterloo, but it would likely be another ruleset read but never played. I have a huge collection of FL minis, but they are split up by all different races/nations and organized into sections of ten or less. I have no interest in fleshing them out to regiments, or what have you. That's a lot of "I's! Anyway, I concur with DerKrampus & MCL. |

Don't get me wrong, Flintloque is fun, great background. But compared to SDS, I find the written orders mechanic clunky

The written orders are gone from the current version. You should give the 3rd edition a try. The lite rules are up to date. Bob |

A change of pace is nice. The SoBaH activation system is fun, though the streamlined system won't keep me from coming back. |

I like Slaughterloo the best but then I do have 29 divisions, it's a fun game and once you picked up the rules it's quick. Jules |

Are there battle packs or deals to get started with. Alternative Armies has lots of good Slaughterloo starters. And they're swell folks to deal with. |

I found Flintloque to be rather clunky and not very good. However, Slaughterloo is a fabulous game, and not too chart heavy. The only downside is that you need a lot of figures for Slaughterloo. On a side note, some of my first commercially produced sculpts were for Flintloque/Slaghterloo. -Matt Beauchamp Hydra Miniatures hydraminiatures.com |

After seeing The Brothers Grimm I was fired up on the idea of Napoleonic fantasy
but more of a modern/rationalist army against folklore/fairytale forces
not so much the Tolkienesque races Flintloque seems to feature (I've only glance at it). I'm thinking small forces with maybe a cannon taking on Baba Yaga's dancing hut and an army of ravens
I'm guessing Song of Drums and Shakos (with SOBH creature stats) would be a good start on that? |

Which figures did some of you choose to get started? Also, which miniatures would closely represent both the British and the French? Thanks for the original feedback. Jonnathon |

I started with this set: link It includes British (orc) and French (elf) light infantry. |
