Has Gw ever changed the basic Leman Russ basic kit or os it the same one from back around 2000?

RenegadeOfficer18 Jun 2013 3:28 p.m. PST

The extras have changed (eg hunter-killer missile), along with some cosmetics (eg, the hull lascannon), but overall not a great deal.

Thanks RenegadeOfficer, thats what I need to know.

They are quite similar, but there are a few notable changes you should be aware of between the old Leman russ which dates to the 90's and the new plastic kits that came out a year or so ago.

The actual sprues have changed. The treads no longer come as separate pieces and are not assembled the same way as the old ones. You don't have a ton of wheels to glue in place. Easier to put together, but you have less accessory options with the new kits as they have some accessories on the main sprue, but no accessory sprue is included. It's still available separately for $13.50 USD.

Also, there are now two separate Leman Russ kits, both of which are all plastic. One that builds a Russ and variant and one that builds a Demolisher and two variants. The turrets are reportedly interchangeable between the two but they have different main weapon mounts.

However, the new turrets/rings are smaller than the old and not compatible.

Also, the turret itself is larger and of slightly different design than the old kit. The hulls are nearly identical when built.

Thanks, I wonder if anyone would even want the old one?
I'm going to sell it with a forgeworld plasma cannon.

the FW turrets come with a turret ring adapter now so you can add it to the turret so it wil fit the older models but once fitted it wont fit the new ones if glues

This one should fit anyway because when they cast it the old tank was the only option. I guess they are making them now to fit the new ones of course. Thanks.

Will the new treads fit on an old version of the Leman Russ?

The new and old LR kits do not fit together at all. The old kits are more limited in weapon options but has the track guard and extra stowage sprue which the new kit lacks. I think there's still a demand for them on Ebay.

The new LR kits are popular because you have more sponson-weapon options and they're all modular. Turret weapons can also be magnetized more easily to make any of three LR variants you want for that kit.

Personally I prefer the older LR because I just don't like the new turret, which is squatter (lower profile) and angles up from the sides where it meets the turret ring, providing an 'aiming point' to shoot at.

Shrike, I doubt it, though if you were really clever with the hobby knife you might be able to make them fit. If you need treads, I'd put up an ad here or at Bartertown. You'll probably be able to find someone to help you.

Rogzombie, If you're selling it with a FW cannon, you should be able to find buyers easily. "FW" is still a nice selling point for new or old models.
