I have always wanted to do Brazilians in Italy. It's just a matter of buying the figures, painting them and putting together some scenarios. Other than that, I'm ready.

Otherwise, give me Italians. They are the perfect army to command – if you win you are a genius and if you get your ass kicked….well what do you expect, they are Italians.

French Resistance fighters.

Good timing. I've never gamed WWii before but I just picked up some 39 Poles & Germans for Bolt Action.

I also just bought Flames of War.

As to favorites, I would say:
1) British Paras,
2) American Paras,
3) Fallschirmjager.

HMSResolution19 Jun 2013 9:37 a.m. PST

British or Canadians in Northwest Europe, 1944-1945.

NobleHero19 Jun 2013 9:42 a.m. PST

That is a tough choice, for me it would have to be either

US Armored Infantry with all of those halftracks

or

British Paras with no heavy support, just rock hard infantry with whatever they could parachute in with

Italians! Got to dispell myths and restore their reputation!

Axis or allies in north Africa using FOW and Russians in Urban (Stalingrad) using 28mm skirmish.

That is a tough question to answer but if pressed I would have to say Canadians in NWE and Italy. Cool kit and good scrappy fights abound. Not quite as doctrinaire as the British Army and so some creative flourishes are possible with the colonials. My only regret is that Ram tanks were never used in battle except as mobile FOO OP's. The more mud and misery, the better; as long as that is on the table and not in real life.
Cheers.
Rod Robertson.

I am building Brits in Syria 1941. They infantry are in solar toupees and you get to use Yeomanry cavalry.
Yes I know they wore helmets in battle, but the topeelooks so quaint.

Don196220 Jun 2013 3:22 p.m. PST

I have a soft spot for British, Canadians and other Commonwealth troops in any theater from 1939-45.

The recent Warlord releases of 1939-42 Germans (plastics & metal) has really increased my interest in this period.

I'm putting together a reinforced platoon of these minis for 1939.

uglyfatbloke21 Jun 2013 1:27 p.m. PST

1941-2 Japanese…clockwork toy-type tanks, but superb elan and really competent infantry practice.
But mostly I play British paras in 1944 and therefore spend a lot of time losing against my wife's Germans.

Fred Cartwright21 Jun 2013 2:47 p.m. PST

I'm quite partial to Blitzkreig Axis, particularly Barbarossa. What's not to like, 6 different types of tanks, lots of different vehicles, horsed cavalry, Stukas and you get Romanians, Hungarians, Finns, Italians, Slovaks etc as allies.

Japanese and British (Desert).

Fred Cartwright20 Aug 2013 8:09 p.m. PST

Joe you need to go back to your history books. It was Italians/Germans vs the British in the desert. :-)

Martin From Canada20 Aug 2013 8:25 p.m. PST

By order:

1) Early War French
2) British Sikhs (Italy and Burma)
3) Canadians
4) Germans
5) US
6) Japanese (Burma theatre)

Paul Y21 Aug 2013 3:37 a.m. PST

Russians (late-war), ETO US, Fallschirmjaeger.

OSchmidt21 Aug 2013 5:05 a.m. PST

Bandrika, the Empire of Terramasu and Republica Bananos!

I do Imagi-nations. They're both parody nations. Bandrika is a sort of re-federation of the former lands of the Austrian Empire, and The Republica Bananos is a combination of the ABC nations of South America.

Yah the SS are OK, but you haven't fought till you lead the Frauderales, Les Mesquiteros, the Gazpacho (secret police) nd the Frito Bandidos agaisnt the the Guinzo Guards, the Terroryakis, and the Bonsaiboiz.

World War II in the style of Groucho Marx in Duck Soup versus the Three Stooges in "I'll never Heil again!"

@ Joe's Shop & Fred Cartwright:

I fought Italians against Japanese! Their tanks are just about compatible!

My favorite WW2 battles are in the Desert. Italian tanks are pretty pathetic, but the Bersaglieri are awesome troops!

I also have some what-if forces that I'm working on for Stalingrad.

cameronian23 Mar 2014 10:29 a.m. PST

Japan v Soviet Union in China either side. Early war lots of old kit, late war, all the Soviet good stuff against the Japanese with nowt worth mentioning.

I probably already said this, but French Partisans

LE CHANT DES PARTISANS
(Chant de la Libération)

Ami, entends-tu
Le vol noir des corbeaux
Sur nos plaines?
Ami, entends-tu
Les cris sourds du pays
Qu'on enchaîne?
Ohé! partisans,
Ouvriers et paysans,
C'est l'alarme!
Ce soir l'ennemi
Connaîtra le prix du sang
Et des larmes!

… with Polish partisans fighting both the Germans and Soviets a close second.

Texas Grognard24 Mar 2014 5:21 p.m. PST

Poles! They weren't the walkovers Goebbel's made them out to be. All eras especially in Normandy. Polish 1st Armoured's epic stand at Montormel was their finest hour! Salut y'all
