As simple as that. What is your favourite army to play in WW2 games?

Wackmole918 Jun 2013 12:28 p.m. PST

US army in the Battle of the Bulge

nickinsomerset18 Jun 2013 12:31 p.m. PST

German,

Tally Ho!

Pizzagrenadier18 Jun 2013 12:33 p.m. PST

French! Bring on the cool tanks with crazy camo, the overcoats, the MAS-36 rifles, FM 24/29 LMG, the Adrian helmets, and the brave Poilus!

John Thomas818 Jun 2013 12:37 p.m. PST

Forces in the PTO, US Army or Marines…or Aussies…

Texas Jack18 Jun 2013 12:38 p.m. PST

I really dig the early desert war British. Lots of cool interwar equipment, and their opponent is Italy, which is also big fun.

dglennjr18 Jun 2013 12:46 p.m. PST

Russians..you lose lots of them, but there's lots more right behind them.

Probably latewar US Army or Germans.

Martin Rapier18 Jun 2013 12:49 p.m. PST

British infantry, ideally supported by lots of 25pdrs and Churchills.

I like the British army, Normandy. I have always liked the uniform and equipment.

If I am playing Mediterranean theater then American 45th div.

I probably play more Russians than any other army. So maybe I should say they are my favorites.

But I really enjoy playing Italians on the Eastern Front, or in Tunisia.

And I like playing French too, particularly in North Africa, against the US (Torch) or the Italians and Germans (Tunisia). Talk about an eclectic collection of gear!

And I like Romanians against the Russians too.

In part I like the challenge of being the underdog. But more, I enjoy using less common kit, and researching and re-fighting lesser-known battles.

Anyone wanna play Leclerc's storming of the Italian fort at Kufra? :-)

EW French and Mid-war US.

Urra, comrades.

Rrobbyrobot18 Jun 2013 1:11 p.m. PST

I have Germans, Soviets and Finns. They're all fun. None is my favorite. I'm thinking about raising a Yugoslav army. I'm sure I'll enjoy commanding it, too. I guess, if pressed, those would all qualify as my favorites.

richarDISNEY18 Jun 2013 1:13 p.m. PST

In this order:
1) ANZAC forces
2) US
3) Germans
4) Brits

Continental Italians or Japanese

Whatever side lets machine gun nazis in the face for 2-3 hours.

Flecktarn18 Jun 2013 1:54 p.m. PST

Probably 1944 Romanians, closely followed by 1939 Poles and 1940 French.

redbanner414518 Jun 2013 2:07 p.m. PST

Russians

Lion in the Stars18 Jun 2013 2:24 p.m. PST

Brits in the Desert, though Bersaglieri are also fun.

Brits in Normandy, too, now that I think about it. I prefer Cromwells to Shermans, and nothing short of an Il2 beats a Typhoon for CAS (and maybe not even then).

But I'm currently building an Engineer-Sapper Battalion. I still need to buy the tanks and artillery.

nazrat18 Jun 2013 2:25 p.m. PST

I don't have a favorite. If it's WW II I will play it!!

Tgerritsen Supporting Member of TMP18 Jun 2013 2:30 p.m. PST

This one! YouTube link

Ok, not really.

For land armies- I prefer US or German, though really will play any force. I don't really like the Pacific theater, though. Don't know why, never grabbed me.

For air, also British or German, but will play anything.

For sea, I prefer German or British in the Atlantic, and am happy either as US or Japanese in the Pacific. In the Med I prefer Italy (nice ships, and if not poorly led, they might have a chance!)

US, NWE, Armored Combat Command.

Canadians, NWE, very close second -- so many cute vehicles!

Jamesonsafari18 Jun 2013 2:55 p.m. PST

Canadians NWE for first place.
German Fallschirmjaeger NWE '44-'45 for 2nd place.
Soviets are intriguing me… and might bump Wehrmacht out of third spot in my affections.

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP18 Jun 2013 3:10 p.m. PST

Japanese what's not to love? No super tanks, lots of fanatic troops and no stress about winning!

kallman18 Jun 2013 3:12 p.m. PST

Americans! You get the M1 Garand, Thompson sub machine guns, BARs, .30 cals, .50 cals, cigar chomping sergeants, the ubiquitous Sherman and M3 Half Track, and hundreds of campy lines from hundreds of war movies.

Probably French.

anleiher18 Jun 2013 3:27 p.m. PST

Another vote for the French. Style matters, after all.

So put on your cheche, turn on some Edith Piaf, decant the wine and have a go the Boches.

badger2218 Jun 2013 3:34 p.m. PST

Germans in North Afrika. And if I cant play them, brits in North Afrika.

Like some other comments here, if it's WWII I like it. If I have to pick a favorite though, it would be 1941 Red Army. You might not win very often, but when you do you can brag about it for a while. The same logic would apply to Russo-Finnish War if I had any Finns for my Red Army to fight against.

langobard19 Jun 2013 3:52 a.m. PST

Italians. No one expects them to win, and if you ever do, you have bragging rights forever :)

jameshammyhamilton19 Jun 2013 4:06 a.m. PST

Soviets then either US or Germans but mainly Soviets.

Terry L19 Jun 2013 4:26 a.m. PST

Canada in NWE but a friend and I will be gearing up to run an Ortona game.

Frederick Supporting Member of TMP19 Jun 2013 5:11 a.m. PST

The Cinderella Army – 1st Canadian Army, NW Europe – is my favourite to play, but I rarely get a chance to, as the Little Prince gets to pick first and he always picks Canadians (no big surprise there) – so I wind up playing Panzergrenadiers a lot

Second favourite would be Afrika Korps
