Thinking about getting – Sabine Pass: The Confederacy's Thermopylae (Clifton & Shirley Caldwell Texas Heritage Series) by Edward T. Cotham. Has anyone read it ? Good/ Bad ? Well written / hard slog ? Interested in any thoughts. Thanks. |

I have both this title and his other book Battle on the Bay about civil war actions at Galveston. I think he writes well, it flows and is engaging as well as illustrated with photos maps and diagrams. Inspired in me a project to recreate the battle with 1/600 scale ships and 3mm troops. I have drawn scale plans to build a model of Fort Griffen, but actual construction won't start until fall when i have more time. The title is based on a post-war speech given by Jefferson Davis. Thanks for that – the preview pages on Amazon looked pretty good but it's nice to have an opinion based on the whole book. It's on the shopping list now ! |

At least they avoided the use of the word 'iron' in the title for this one. |

The title is based on a post-war speech given by Jefferson Davis. Ah well, that's okay, then. JD was never 'over the top'. ;->= Sounds very interesting; I'll be looking! Doug |
