I am wondering if anyone can tell me if the assistant gunner of a BAR team would carry the same actual pouches on him like the Gunner has for his ammo clips? Or did he just carry a bag full of the clips?

There is some re-enactor/collector chit chat about assistant BAR gunner belts here:

looks like a special ammo belt, in a few different variations.

Why am I not surprised:)

D-Day loading had the BAR gunner with 13 mags. The assist-gunner carried 13 mags plus a bag of 32 M1 clips. I don't know what was carried at other times.
