I visited the Smithsonian when I was in Washington, but I couldn't find the Dillinger exhibit. Has anybody seen it? Is it worth the effort? Where is it in the museum? How long is it?

Was just at the American History museum last weekend, and about a third of the exhibit space was closed for renovation. A lot of the better known artifacts were crammed into a small temporary exhibit. Didn't see anything on Dillinger, though.

It doesn't exist. It's an Urban Legend. The Smithsonian has denied numerous times that they have it or have a collection of famous men manly parts

The Smithsonian is a staid and proper establishment. If they had it, they would not admit it. They don't admit it, therefore they have it. That sounds like Utter Drivel logic to me.

Actually, I thought I read years ago that the Dillinger car (the one full of holes) was NOT at the Smithsonian but elsewhere. Probably in a mid-West museum somewhere. This is isn't the type of thing the Smithsonian does by the way….

I remember when my elementary school toured the _old FBI building_, they had lots of souvenirs from various famous Most Wanted figures. We even got a firearms demo--a .38 Special and a .45 cal Tommy gun on auto. I don't specifically remember any Dillinger memorabilia, however.

Yes, the Dillinger exhibit is a legend. And don't even try to locate the car full of bullet holes, that was Bonney & Clyde. Dillinger was on foot when he was killed.

As an aside, the FBI has a movie theater at their training town in Quantico (the town is called Hogan's Alley). The theater is called the Biograph and it is playing Manhattan Melodrama – a reference to Dillinger and his last shoot-out.

I was in DC a couple years ago and stopped at the FBI building too visit their museum. They said that everything has been moved to Quantico since 9/11. They don't want a lot of visitors hanging about in their building now.

Although, they have used Dillinger's face on their firearms training targets.

I know where the Dillinger Car is…

It's sitting on display right here in the Indianapolis Airport Terminal. I walk right by it every time I am on my way to get a rental, (weird huh?). Next time I'll get a pic of it and post it…

And he's buried here in Indy at Crown Hill also…

I would like to see the picture. Of the car, that is.
