I've found some info on the estimated makeup of the Soviet PVO (Air Defense Forces) during the Cold War, but there are no listings for the Mig-21, or Mig-23.

So, I'm curious to know when the PVO fielded the Mig-21?

The stats I've run across show info from the late 1950's up through 1972.

I suspect the Mig-23 isn't listed, since it probably was deployed by the PVO around the end of that timeline, or a little later.

Any info, especially if broken down by numbers and years, would be appreciated.

I'm also interested in PVO stats for 1973 and later as well, in terms of numbers and types of aircraft fielded each year, if that is available.

Greetings

I came across a reference today that the first Soviet air regiment to field the MiG 23 was the 32nd Guards in 1970. They had also taken MiG 21s to Cuba prior to the Cuban Missile crisis.

Regards

Edward
