Out of sheer curiousity, could we have a poll as to how many TMPers live with other TMPers? Or even a poll as to how many TMPers know other TMPers in the real world? (i.e. "I know 1, less than 10, less than 20, greater than 20 TMPers?") |

I know one, no co-habitation. |

I met a couple at my first visit to Historicon, otherwise zero. And I live solo, which is a true blessing for a miniatures enthusiast. |

One of my regular gaming friends is an infrequent contributor. Some I knew apart from TMP, but knew through the hobby otherwise. I have met maybe 5 of you others at HMGS East cons. I printed up and wore the official badge, and that helped with the "Hey! You're the OFM!" introductions. No one bought me a beer for it, though. And none of the dealers gave me any discounts on account of the badge either. 8^) |

I've met quite a few, John included. But I am married to a woman who just *tolerates* the hobby. |

Like Walt, I've met a few, but my wife is not a gamer. |

If my question seems a bit crazy, there have been some recent threads in which one or two posters had identified that they live together. It doesn't seem that strange; after all, I'm sure there are some couples who met through gaming, as well as roomates. But more seriously, I am shocked that for all the time I spend at TMP, it's very hit or miss whether those I meet at conventions know of TMP. Some do, some don't. Maybe its the fact that some tabletop gamers aren't as friendly with computers, or that the only frequent forums of games they play. |

I meant "that THEY only frequent forums of games they play." |

"But I am married to a woman who just *tolerates* the hobby." My female regards it as a waste of time and money. Much as I regard her absurb stamping hobby.... |

I cohabit with one TMPie, and know another personally (my brother jweaver). John, if I ever get to a Con and meet you, I will happily stand you a beer!

I beleive I have met three or four about once a year at Southern Front. Am I correct that that includes John? (if so he never got a free beer at SF that I know of either. aawww :(---:)) |
Ed Mohrmann | 18 Oct 2004 7:29 p.m. PST |
I don't think the OFM has ever made it to SF. BUT, if he should make an appearance, I'll be glad to buy him a Yeungling (YES ! We have it here in the South !) OR a Heineken...
TMP'ers you could have seen at SF this year included me, Hacksaw, Snowwolf (who is using another screen name now...),Rudy Nelson, BTC, Chris Hughes, Neal Smith - well, there are others, but I'm not sure I'm familiar enough with their screen names to put 'em up, and I don't want to inadvertently 'out' someone...:-) |

[Or even a poll as to how many TMPers know other TMPers in the real world?] Tomorrow! |

I think Johns post was part of a clever plan to get free beer at cons. ;-) I'll buy you one if you are at Cold Wars. See, its working.

I've had the good fortune to make friends with lot of people here at TMP, and managed to meet some of them face to face. Inari7 I met last year, and hope to do so again, last weekend I met up with Cowboy Joe, daily I chat with him and Nimrodd SS, I've met Guntruck at Salute and a few others. Being this side ofthe pond doesn't make things easy as too many of you live Stateside, but I'll get there. Oh for a TMP Con - where we can all meet and game etc |

I've never been further south than Virginia or Maryland for my gaming needs, and that was in the early days of HMGS and its travelling circus. Since I got back in again, luckily for me, I have had to travel no further than Lancaster. I made it to Detroit once for an Origins, I think. So, my gaming is mainly in Lancaster, and the greater Scranton/Wilkes Barre metroplex. I once made common cause with a New Zealand gamer over something once, and offerred to stand him to a beer somewhere halfway between us. I think the nearest land to that point was Ecuador, but I never did the measuring, though. Just a guess. What's so clever about a plan to get free beer? Even Homer Simpson can manage that! 8^) |
WaltOHara | 29 Oct 2004 11:05 a.m. PST |
And you call ME the perfect master!! If I knew there was free beer in it, I'd jack my posting count up to 100 a day and provide free grammar counseling. Who knew? Actually, to tell the truth, con-goers at HMGS conventions have proven themselves to be pretty generous in the 'buying someone a beer' department. Walt |

My wife not only got me started in the hobby, she's agreed to me starting a business in it part time (in exchange for becoming a full-time stay at home father). But she gets this glazed look when I talk about it, and I just know she's thinking about shoes....or jewelry... |
