I am finally getting back into painting some 1/300 WW2 planes and am going to start putting on some squadron markings. But
. I have no idea what squadron markings went to which plane. Is there a place (website) where it has squadron markings for the different planes and nationalities? I know its a tall order, but TMPers are a smart bunch
Thanks!

For USN and USMC, squadron markings were generally absent from airplanes, or painted towards the front of the cockpit on the side of the airplane. Even when used, the markings were so small that on a small models they would be indistinguishable. For example:
Later in the war Navy (and Marine aircraft assigned to carriers) carried markings on their tails to make differentiation of aircraft easy ('G Symbols'). Each carrier used its own geometric design. They can be found here: link Mike |

Wings Palette is more about colour schemes, but you can probably find specific instances of markings in their collection: wp.scn.ru |
