Hi,

I ordered some miniatures from Black Tree Designs over a month ago and have not received them. I have mailed them three times with no response. A month may not seem all that long but when it says on my receit that most orders will be sent within 2 days this looks quite bad.

They are perfectley willing to keep sending me mails about their ongoing sales but can't be bothered to send my figures. I think their service stinks and does anybody have any idea how I go about getting my figures off them?

Steve.

ehetheri18 Oct 2004 7:54 a.m. PST

Last year during their christmas sale they messed up a lot of orders and sent them via ground post instead of air. It ended up taking them 3 months to get to my door. If that's the case with your there's not much you can do but wait it out I'm afriad.

Hi Steve,

I ordered some WW2 miniatures and I received them in about one week.
And they were so fast also in the replacement of some missing/wrong minis.

Ciao,
Marco
Milano, Italy

STEVE LBMS18 Oct 2004 8:23 a.m. PST

Ehetheri that sounds terrible, I have not had to wait that long and Marco sounds like he had great service.

I live in London UK about 200 miles from Nottingham were they are manufactured, Wargames Foundry are in Nottingham as well and their miniatures always arrive in about 2 or 3 days without fail plus they answer their emails.

It seems like a case of potluck what kind of service you get.

call them to find out what is going on with your order.

I live in London UK about 200 miles from Nottingham were they are manufactured, - I thought they were based down in Cornwall? They do sometimes hit problems - as in the whole blown out of proportion problems last year - keep trying them, having met them they are nice decent people who are unhappy if things go wrong for customers. (I am not a sock puppet)

I live in California, and I've never ad a problem with BTD. I order direct from the UK and never through the US rep. I usally get my order in about a week.

Call them and find out what happened, your minis may have been lost in transit, or sent surface by mistake.

how did that just happen? Sorry for the duplicate post...

pmwalt18 Oct 2004 11:53 a.m. PST

I live in Virginia and have had very good luck with them for the past couple of years. I only had one problem with them during one of their large sales; and, after contacting the US rep I had my figures in a week.

LordPeterFlint18 Oct 2004 1:29 p.m. PST

Well, I have had problems with every BTD order I send.

mweaver18 Oct 2004 3:05 p.m. PST

I just ordered from them once. No problem - in fact, the figs crossed the Atlantic much quicker than the estimate they gave me.

James Forrest18 Oct 2004 3:29 p.m. PST

I have ordered 4 times now, although they did cock up once that was the content of the order, they all arrived very quickly. Something has definitely gone wrong with your order, demand a discount!

Stryker0118 Oct 2004 4:23 p.m. PST

Wasn't BTD involved in the Sockpuppet scandal.

nudspinespittle Supporting Member of TMP18 Oct 2004 6:32 p.m. PST

BTD gets my support. Your order must have fallen through the cracks. Give them a call.

nazrat18 Oct 2004 11:31 p.m. PST

"Scandal" indeed!

For what it's worth I've always had a good service from them, thet've had 3 0r 4 orders from me.

STEVE LBMS19 Oct 2004 1:44 a.m. PST

Fair enough,

It looks like my case is the exception rather than the rule!

I dont like to make complaints about companies or individuals but sometimes I feel I am left with no other option. They should not list Email as a means of communication if they are not going to use it however.

ehetheri19 Oct 2004 2:18 a.m. PST

sock puppet scandal?

bridget midget the return19 Oct 2004 3:18 a.m. PST

Wot! No DellJohnB comment yet!!!!

Don't...poke...the BEAR!

Garand19 Oct 2004 7:57 a.m. PST

I order from them frequently and have yet to have a problem. Even during the order fiasco of several months ago I had absolutely no issues with my order, and indeed emailed them and got a response within a few days. Shipping from them to the US (Pennsylvania) takes no more than 2 weeks, sometimes as little as 1 week.

Damon.

Alias Zero19 Oct 2004 10:36 a.m. PST

I had no problems a few months back...

fgilbert219 Oct 2004 10:50 a.m. PST

I ordered during their big sale last year and received the items faster than I do from some stateside suppliers. I give them a big thumbs up...

Daryl G19 Oct 2004 12:34 p.m. PST

Someone wake up Delljohn, otherwise hes going to miss the chance of a rolling eyes comment....

nazrat19 Oct 2004 2:17 p.m. PST

He was attacking Black Tree just today on another unrelated thread where BT was just mentioned. I think the rolling of his eyes has affected his perceptions (not to mention judgment) a bit. 8)=

Stavka19 Oct 2004 4:24 p.m. PST

I ordered EI Romans from them three times (to Japan direct from the UK) in the past six months. I had no problem with the orders at all. One order was received within eight days of placing the order, the longest took 15 days (a big order).

Nice figs, by the way.

vino196720 Oct 2004 1:10 p.m. PST

I ordered a a bunch of Saracens from them about 5 weeks ago. When they had not arrived about 3 weeks later, I sent an e-mail.

They responded that they had encountered some problems running my credit card, and could I please inform them of how to proceed.

A quick check on my online bank revealed that there had never been a charge against the card. A call to the issuing cc company revealed that a charge had never been declined, either. So, there must have been a techo-glitch on their end.

I sent another e-mail requesting that they try running the card number over again, and contact me if they encounter further problems. A week later, I had my Saracens.

The figures are very nice, and I did get everything that I paid for. My only regret is that they had not taken the initiative to re-run the cc on their own (if this is legal in UK), or inform me earlier of the failed transaction.

Demaratos20 Oct 2004 1:18 p.m. PST

Never had any problems with the service!

nazrat22 Oct 2004 11:57 a.m. PST

I think they are great. Keep up the good work, BTD, and only a couple of die-hards will continue harping on the non-issue of the sock puppets...

stealth84122 Oct 2004 4:53 p.m. PST

I found them to be fast & all was fine. Im in the UK.

Totallycheapminiatures26 Oct 2004 2:48 p.m. PST

Being a stockist of BT i find them to be a good friendly service, if you have a problem with BTD you can get them from us or call John and explain.

John is a nice chap who seems to be trying to get on his feet again after about of a fiasco they had, I would order from him if i wasnt a stockist. (If you know what i mean?)

Regards
Steve.

alien BLOODY HELL surfer04 Nov 2004 11:56 a.m. PST

makes the old nescafe gesture (those in the UK may remember this one) ;-)

IS that better than eyes rolling Nazrat ;-)

Steve @ totallycheapminiatures - where are you in the UK?

Hans Landa13 Jan 2006 4:29 a.m. PST

Last Thursday my wife placed an order with them, they sent an email saying item will be despatched on the Saturday,We were hoping that the order will arrive by the wednesday as it was a birthday present.
I phoned BTD this morning as the order still hasnt arrived, they said it hasnt been posted out yet.
I said wife recieved an email stated item was post saturday.

Terrible customer service last time i will be using them and i will be spreading the word.

NikkiB20 Jan 2006 3:19 p.m. PST

WHAT???

Problems???

You HAVE to be kidding me!!!

(rolling eyes)

BrianH03 May 2010 7:20 a.m. PST

The problems never seem to end for BTD. I placed an order in late December, I am still waiting!

Zophiel22 Sep 2010 2:31 p.m. PST

I've only ordered from the US distributor for BTD twice and both times there were delays and missing items. I've now attempted to ask about availability before ordering but there hasn't been an answer. Until and unless they answer, I can't order and feel confident about it. This is sad, I think, because some of their pieces are truly exceptional.

sector5123 Sep 2010 6:57 a.m. PST

There are other suppliers who will do figures as good as or better than BTD.

Is it worth taking the risk, well only if you can afford to lose the money with a happy heart IMHO.

Zophiel23 Sep 2010 1:53 p.m. PST

I would love to be able to order directly from the UK-based BTD. Very few of their customers seem to have experienced the problems associated with the US branch.

Does anyone have an email address for the UK branch? I've used the "Contact Us" link but I think that it's associated with the US-branch.

sector5124 Sep 2010 1:03 p.m. PST

Very few of their customers seem to have experienced the problems associated with the US branch.

Well you must be thinking of a different UK from the one I live in. US or UK ordering from BTD has been a risky business.

Balrogjdk06 Dec 2013 10:11 a.m. PST

I've place 3 orders with Black Tree in the past 4 months and the service has been very good. My first order as an army builder for WW II Soviets and almost everything came in in the initial shipment and 1 pack was shorted. I placed a second smallish order for some Germans and the back order and missing pack from the first order came with it but some of the Germans were back ordered. I've placed a tiny order and as of two days ago it is in transit with everything ordered and all back order being shipped. I expect it in about a week as that's how long it's been taking.

Overall I'd say Black Tree's service and communication has been excellent and I really like the figures.

Just wanted to offer a recent thumbs up for those worried about older bad experience mentioned on TMP as I had initially. Well done BTD.

Inkpaduta06 Dec 2013 11:18 a.m. PST

That sounds good. But, I must admit I am not a fan when things have to be back ordered.

NickNorthStar06 Dec 2013 1:45 p.m. PST

Why would a manufacturer back order their own figures? You just put the mould in the casting machine, it has to be easier than paying two lots of postage.

Gloria Smud07 Dec 2013 1:40 p.m. PST

C'mon Nick – as a former BTD employee (or were they called something else back then?) you must know all the dodges, excuses & ruses in the BTD book ;-D

chrisminiaturefigs20 Dec 2013 6:34 a.m. PST

I made a couple of orders for their nice late romans around june and all arrived in good time and as ordered.
I must confess I felt I was taking a risk after reading a lot of bad reports about them last year, but the figures are nice and BTDs discounts are better than anyone else's I can think of.

Jon Sutherland20 Dec 2013 10:29 a.m. PST

I've made 4 or 5 orders over the past year or so, never had any problems with them at all. They are a little slower (alright about ten days), then some, but everything has always been delivered intact and complete.

Balrogjdk22 Jan 2014 9:27 a.m. PST

A follow up. My third order came in fine and I placed a fourth order for an American army. I was told the order shipped Dec. 22, 2013 but as of Jan 22 2014 the order hasn't arrived. I've called twice and used their message center twice. My first message got a "we're looking into it" response. The second so far nothing. They were having a 50% of sale whereas my previous orders were only discounted 35%.
So I guess I'll join the disappointed club and suggest caution. I was very pleased up til now.
