It seems that Chinese authorities in Weihai built a duplicate of the pre-dreadnought Dingyauan.

Coincidentally, the only actual pre-dreadnought still in existence is the Mikasa, not very far away in Japan.

What I wouldn't give to go to Asia and see these ships in person…

Hi

Isn't the Olympia a pre dreadnaught?

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER09 Jun 2013 7:15 p.m. PST

Beautiful I'd love to see it too.

I'll add it to my list of China sites to see.

Olympia is definitely from the pre-dreadnaught era, but she is a protected cruiser. Georgios Averoff in Piraeus is a bi newer than Olympia, but she's an armored cruiser. Mikasa is a battleship. I don't know about the Chinese ship.

Forget 1:1 scale. Recreate the Chinese fleets in 1:350! bronco-model.com has 1/350 models of the Chih Yuen, Ting Yuen (probably the Dingyauan above), Chen Yuen and Ching Yuen. I have three of these kits in my "to do" pile. After the three Zvezda Russian dreadnaughts/armoured cruiser that beat them to the pile.

It is interesting that the Chinese who had modern (enough) kit when the Japanese beat them should revert to the Boxers and other medieval nonsense some years later.
