I'm always keeping an eye out for nice Greek myth figures. I see that Crocodile Games have a new series of so-called demigods (supposed to be the sons and daughters of the various gods as I understand it). They also have a kickstarter going to release the game Wargods of Olympus.

Now, I take issue with the concept of there being daughters of Athena and Artemis, but the miniatures themselves look great. However, the Artemis figure already released looks completely different to the green in the kickstarter. I'd love to know if the kickstarter green will be produced in addition to the current figure, or if one is shown in error? Anyone know?

Current Artemis – I'd consider picking up this figure.

Kickstarter green Artemis – I'd trample refugee children to get my hands on this figure (not really, but you get the idea).

Goddesses known for their virginity don't normally have children.

As I said John, I have issues with that concept but its not really the point.

Here are a couple of other photos of the figs.

There are multiple variant sculpts of most/all of the Egyptian army leader sculpts, I assume the same applies to the Greek stuff. Not like there's only one demigod associated with each deity, and each one is unique. I expect both sculpts will be produced and sold – the second (much nicer IMO) Artemis isn't a KS exclusive AFAIK.

If it is an exclusive, I suggest we start the death threats and rioting now to save time. :)

It makes more sense for the Oracle to be and exclusive, and I'm not even sure if that is the case.

The sculpt at the top is the original Artemis sculpt and is currently available on the Croc website. There is a new sculpt for her as part of the kickstarter. In addition to Artemis, there are new Demigods for Apollo, Hades and Ares. I don't know if the old sculpts will continue to be available or not. I think they will, there isn't anything wrong with a few alternate sculpts. None of the Demigods are exclusive to the Croc Kickstarter. Currently there are two exclusive miniatures; the Mycenean Titan Hunter and the Oracle of Delphi. There is a Titan Hunter currently available in the Croc Store as well.

The kickstarter is close to releasing the Corinthians, but there are only a few concept sketches of them at this point.

The fluff may have changed but originally the Demigods were regular people that were imbued with the power of their deity through divine favor. That may have changed ultimately I don't see how that makes a difference its a game and we are talking about mythology not history here.

I think this was discussed on the Croc Forum too.

One "explanation" is that the demigod may not have been conceived or birthed in the "normal" way – after all, Athena was supposed to have been born from the forehead of Zeus, and Aphrodite from sea foam.

In game terms I suspect they are just the Greek equivalent of the avatars of the Egyptian gods.

TheRatGod08 Jun 2013 10:40 p.m. PST

well you could become a demigod by being born from one as a parent or by having one as your sponsor type if i remember right. you gained nonhuman attributes from one choosing you as their champion

Exactly! But we must let the pedants have their fun!

HarryHotspurEsq09 Jun 2013 11:10 a.m. PST

Well, game aside, I've signed up to the kickstarter to get my hands on some lovely models asap!

John the OFM09 Jun 2013 3:09 p.m. PST

"Pedants?"
Harrumph.

You're talking like that's a BAD thing!

Literal Nonsense10 Jun 2013 7:12 a.m. PST

Not interested in the demigod fluff but those miniatures are great. They could be used to represent the gods themselves in something like Of Gods and Mortals (when it comes out).

HarryHotspurEsq10 Jun 2013 1:27 p.m. PST

That's my take on it exactly LN.

mashrewba01 Sep 2013 2:07 p.m. PST

Will these be available in the UK – anyone have them at Colours??

HarryHotspurEsq02 Sep 2013 1:55 a.m. PST

No idea, but estimated kickstarter delivery is this month if that helps…

Never heard of virgin birth?

TheRatGod02 Sep 2013 2:47 p.m. PST

Or they can be chosen by said goddess and become like their children or champion

Psychobilly196302 Sep 2013 4:42 p.m. PST

Does anyone have an idea of the size? I am hoping with them being demigods they will be close to 40mm.I've brought the odd figure in the range which fit nicely with my 40mm Greek project.

TheRatGod02 Sep 2013 7:58 p.m. PST

close to 40mm I think, but dont remember exactly, personally was grabbing the gods to be used as gods for a 15mm greek mythology army

HarryHotspurEsq03 Sep 2013 6:23 a.m. PST

They are certainly larger than 28mm, but not sure how much larger.
