I think it is working for you; it mutes the colors but doesn't turn everything brown.

Dave, your latest militia unit is really looking good. I have not tried the staining technique but I'm becoming more and more convinced to do so.

I agree with Von Blucher, you painting is getting much better. The lighter colors and high lights really stand out and make the figure alive. Well Done!!
