Can anyone recommend any books on the history of the Regia Marina during WW2? I know of "Mussolini's Navy" by Maurizio Brescia, and hope to purchase it at the end of the month, but it seems to be more about ships and equipment. What I'm looking for is a history of the force in action. I've read that there is precious little written about this in English, but maybe someone here will know of something? Thanks guys! |

I believe James Sadkovich wrote a revisionist history called The Italian Navy in World War II. It's quite expensive ($114), and from what I've read of it, I was not impressed by his arguments. He does push very forcefully for a reappraisal of the Regia Marina, so that may interest. |

You might try Greene & Massigani's Naval War in the Mediterranean. It doesn't focus exclusively on the Regia Marina, but Massignani's participation means that at least it's balanced in regards to the Italians. link |

"The Italian Navy in World War II" by Marc' Antonio Bragadin has some interesting things to say. Mostly, it wasn't their fault that their navy fought poorly. |

"Struggle for the Middle Sea" by Vincent O'Hara also presents a "revisionist" view of both the Italians and French in the Med, and does so mostly in a plausible fashion. It's good to read stuff like this to balance the pro-British propaganda seen in earlier English-language histories. MH |
