Now, this may sound a bit crazy but three seperate news items from a few weeks past I became aware of. In themselves, not much but when combined with this new one I saw
. first we had link Robots that can replicate themselves with 3-D printing added to link A "cloaking device", capable of rendering objects invisible to microwave light, has been produced using a standard 3D printer by scientists in America. and then we had (for 10 minutes bfore the FEDS blocked it) this link a 3D home printer to produce a firearm, successfully fired a bullet at lethal velocity, and then posted video to YouTube. and finally we now have link self awareness This means with 3-D printers we will soon have SELF-REPLICATING INVISIBLE ROBOTS WITH GUNS!!! Meanwhile, what were we doing? Watching X-factor or the Voice. WAKE UP PEOPLE!! The future is now. What would be your prefered scale? How would you organise your units? Basing? Who would make and sell them? How viable would it be able to print your own or scratchbuild? |

You forgot self-awareness! "Self-aware replicating invisible robots with GUNS!!" Skynet anyone? Yes it's time wake up and smell the coffee folks! Yet another reason to watch "Doomday Preppers" :O |

You forgot one final point, e.g. robots that feed on meat, in order to fuel their power cells. I seem to recall that discussion, not to long ago. I suspect they can probably feed on all organic matter, so it'll only be a short while 'til they strip the planet bare of all life, then build spaceships, and move on to the next star system. |

Do you mean something like In-vitro meat? From Wikipedia link and from the BBC link Feb 19, 2012 – Dutch scientists use stem cells to create strips of muscle tissue, from which they hope to make the world's first lab-grown hamburger later this year. |

As I would be certain they would extend an open dinner invite to you. I origianaly posted this on Facebook to try and create awareness and discussion but all my friends were too busy watching Bone Idol. |

Yes this is the beginning of the end folks, Self aware self replicating bio mass running invisible gun toting robots, that sneak up on you, shoot you, then eat you! No fuss, no muss and no bodies littering the battlefield. Okay you have to come up with a name for them, you just can't go around screaming "There coming, there coming the Self aware self replicating bio mass running invisible gun toting robots are coming!!" |

I would imagine that would very quickly end with "
Errk!.." and become an epitaph. (Cut to love interest crying "His last words were..Look out! Self-etc,etc
Errk!!.") A bit of a cumbersum description but I suppose much needed so as to distuingish them from the other Self-Aware Self-Replicating etc etc stealth robots. They don't have to sneak as they are Stealth-y. |

Carbon based circuitry is similar in many aspects to silicon based – and has been contemplated before for cybernetic parts that would be less inclined to be rejected by the host body. There's no reason why nanotech machines must be silicon based – and life forms have an abundance of carbon. |

EATR is the robot that can consume flesh for power. Another DARPA robot can smell humans from absurd distances and in adverse conditions
Allegedly for rescue, but
DARPA. Everybody sits around fantasizing about zombie apocalypse
But it is the robots that are coming! That is without even mentioning the grey goo nanobot apocalypse
Doomed I tell ya, doomed. |
