Can I use superglue to glue Shapeways materials to bases or is there some preferred material (white glue, etc)? I expected it to be a harder plastic, more like resin, but it is surprisingly soft and I don't want to wreck it. Thanks!

I don't know which Shapeways material you used for your models, but the "tough flexible" material works well with superglue.

The material is "frosted ultra detail".

Superglue should still work fine. Just be sparing with it – the models are very light and just a drop will do fine as long as there's contact.

I've been happy with the results using Gorilla brand superglue to base Shapeways ships. (Not Gorilla Glue, that's stuff's different. "Gorilla Superglue" is good, "Gorilla Glue" is bad.) I glued my 1:6000 scale Shapeways "frosted ultra detail" ships on bases cut from sheet plastic, then covered the bases with Green Stuff putty which I carved into wave shapes so they'd fit in with Hallmark/Figurehead miniatures. The 1:1200 Shapeways "white strong flexible" ships I glued to balsa wood bases.

I superglued my frosted ultra detail ships from Shapeways with no problems.
